Conserving greek folk tales, the greek poet Hesiod, contradicting Homer, claims that the mythical goddess Aphrodite, has emerged from the foams ("aphros") of the sea. The story goes that Uranus was castrated by his son, Cronus, who then threw his testicles into the sea. From his semen, the goddess of love and beauty was born, who emerged, and was carried on a shell by the west wind to the coast of Cyprus.
What a sight, and what a story!
