Pavlovsk park🌲🌳(русский текст в комментариях)
Large circles - two sites of regular geometric shape, which arose as a result of the redevelopment of the palace part of the park according to the project of V. Brenna in 1797-1799.
In place of coniferous forest, Brenna creates a regular layout in the style of Italian terraced gardens. In the center of each circle there are low stone terraces with marble statues in the middle. On the first circle - the statue of "Justice", on the second - the "Peace" by the Italian sculptor of the beginning of the XVIII century, Pietro Baratta.
Originally acquired for the Summer Garden of Peter the Great, during the time of Elizabeth Petrovna, they were transported to Tsarskoye Selo, and, finally, by order of Paul I - to Pavlovsk. Large circles together with the Italian staircase fit harmoniously into the surrounding landscape.
In contrast to the usual regular parks, the Big Circles are surrounded by natural forest that connects them with the landscape area of the Slavyanka River Valley.
P.S.–During the war, the park sculpture did not have time to evacuate, and the statues were buried in a park, in secret places.
When the statues were packed in wooden boxes, one of the museum workers wrote with a pencil on the shoulder of the statue "Peace" - "we will find you, Peace" - 46 minutes ago
