IGOR review - ok so lemme jus start by saying that Tyler is one of my favorite artists of all time. Whether or not you like his music, Tyler has been one of the most influential rap artists of our generation. After dropping 4 solo albums and his critically acclaimed 2017 masterpiece “Flower Boy”, Tyler returns with yet another album. This album, “IGOR”, was teased in small, minute long second snippets released to Tyler’s YouTube. From listening to these snippets, it was clear to me that Tyler was going in a different direction than his earlier albums. The snippets sounded like a blend of his two most recent projects, “Cherry Bomb” and “Flower Boy”. This made me very excited for “IGOR” and when the album came on May 17th, it did not disappoint. Despite being low on rap elements and Tyler’s vocals, this album was still amazing. It was 100% produced by Tyler himself, and his unique production style truly elevates this album to be incredible. With vocals from artists such as Santigold, Frank Ocean, Lil Uzi Vert, Kanye West, and even Playboi Carti, Tyler is able to create some of his best symphonies to date. This album is not one for strictly rap fans who were expecting a revival of “Wolf” or “Goblin”. This album is heavy on beautiful production and amazing vocals from guest artists and sometimes, though rarely, Tyler himself. This album is Tyler’s best-produced album to date and perhaps his best album ever.
