🤩️ Day 1️⃣5️⃣ of #CollateralPractice with @cyogalife ️ #Compass , #Sundial , #ArcherII or #SuryaYantrasana variant ️🤩
Slight change of pace for today’s pose: instead of working on strength, we’ll do so on our flexility and, specially, balancing skills. If the regular version, sitting down on the floor, is enough and you get benefits from it, stick with that one. This variant is a step up because balancing on the toes forces the flexibility part to be fairly obvious, otherwise you’ll quickly fall. Warm up with some hamstring stretches (including the seated version of this) as well as some feet ones, so the fascia tissue on the soles has a chance to expand and the toes start ‘gripping’ the floor. Then, from a squatting position, climb one leg onto its shoulder, hold outer edge of the foot with opposite hand, pass body through the ‘loop’ created, and twist torso in the opposite direction, away from them. One thing it’ll tend to happen is that you’ll want to ‘lean’ on the hand that’s on the floor. If you overindulge in that, you’ll fall sideways so, for instance, come up on the fingertips like I’m showing in the pic, to avoid that temptation and be straighter. Pay extra attention to the base foot and align heel above toes, place it close to the middle of the butt cheeks, knee pointing straight out (not in a diagonal). For those going that extra mile, practice balancing JUST on the toes, no hand nor fingers resting down, while you project vertically that leg into the sky... With the amount of balance required, it’s easy to forget about the lateral extension of the side holding the foot so, here’s a reminder for that! Long, meaningful breaths and have fun playing with this!! Your turn!
