While Kinkakuji (the Golden Pavilion) maybe the star of the show in Kyoto, Ginkakuji (the Silver Pavilion) is often over looked, despite providing a much more compelling experience.
The temple itself is not covered in Silver as the name may suggest, but don’t let that deter you. The gardens and hilltop views that surround it make the whole Ginkakuji compound simply mesmerising.
Both the Golden and Silver pavilions in Kyoto are considered to be zen temples but in my opinion only the Silver pavilion provides the feeling of “zen” in the modern day as it is often less busy than its Golden counterpart.
Round off your experience of Ginkakuji with a stroll down the “Philosophers Path” which is a beautiful river side walk that can be found just outside the gates of the Silver Pavilion. - 2 hours ago
