It’s E A S T E R 🐣 S U N D A Y. A day for gathering with friends and family (probably around food) and inevitably also being surrounded by chocolate, in its many many eggy forms.

So here is your Easter reminder:
👍🏼 You do not need to ‘earn’ your Easter lunch.
👍🏼 You do not need to pencil in a run, or a HIIT workout tomorrow to ‘burn it off’
👍🏼 You are not going to ‘un-do all of your progress’ by eating more than normal today.
👍🏼 Conversely, over-eating isn’t a pre-requisite to having a great Easter. If you don’t want *all the food* you don’t have to eat *all the food*.
👍🏼 But also, even if you’re full and still really want that chocolate egg, eat the chocolate egg.
👍🏼 The gym will still be there on Tuesday.

Frohe Ostern meine Hübschis 🐣🐰 ich habe gestern nach dem Lernen noch eine nächtliche Backaktion gestartet und einen Osterreindling gebacken! ☺ .. hatte zu viel Teil, darum wurden es dann 2 🙈😅 aber heute kommt die ganze Familie zusammen - da mach ich mir keine Sorgen, dass was übrig bleibt 😁🍴 Der Tisch ist schon gedeckt & das meiste schon vorbereitet! Ich bin jetzt noch fleißig am Schreibtisch 📚, bevor die Bande dann zu Mittag antanzt 💕 wünsche euch einen schönen Tag mit gutem Essen & guter Gesellschafft 🐰🐰 (ich find diesen Hasen so unglaublich süß, kann den gar nicht oft genug benutzen 😂 freu mich an Ostern immer so, dass der endlich passend ist 😂)

I’m REALLY glad I didn’t opt for the hot crossed bun. I’m bloody stuffed 😂(and there were no more buns anyway, thanks kids!). I love Sundays, but today I shall be cleaning and tidying and finally unpacking the suitcase and putting the clothes away. I may now be in love with biscoff spread, so that’s fun, and I enjoyed every bloody mouthful of this breakfast. Unbezahlte Werbung! FRÜHSTÜCK für heute... hatte  vorhin so grossen Hunger... sagte zumindest mein Magen... knurrte... und doch habe ich nur das Käsebrötchen geschafft. Ich fühle  mich gut... wohl und zufrieden. Und das beste ist, ich bin entspannt gerade und denke nicht wieder an die nächste  Mahlzeit  die ich essen darf, kann odee muss. Non demonizziamo nessun cibo. È la dose che fa effetto. Non basterà mangiare sano per un giorno per dimagrire così come non basterà mangiare male per un giorno per ingrassare. È nel lungo termine che si vedono gli effetti dell’alimentazione. Mangiare sano ma senza rinunciare a niente. Concedersi quello che ci va senza esagerare. L’equilibrio alimentare non è facile da raggiungere ma nemmeno impossibile. È qualcosa che richiede impegno e costanza. Il y a 5 mois, je me suis lancée dans l’alimentation intuitive.
Au début, je ne voulais vous en parler QUE si je réussissais. Réussir pour moi voulait dire : réussir à contrôler ce que je mangeais et avoir perdu du poids. Cela m’aurait évité d’avoir à me confronter à des personnes qui diraient « hey mais dit donc, ça marche pas ton truc puisque t’as grossi ». Mais en fait, je me rends compte que j’ai déjà réussi ! Je ne suis plus boulimique. Je ne mange plus de chose qui ne me font pas envie. Je n’ai plus peur d’aller au restaurant, je ne déteste plus les gens qui m’offrent du chocolat. Mes placards sont remplis de sucreries et je ne mange que ce que j’ai envie. Je ne culpabilise plus !

Et tout ca, c’est juste un truc de dingue. Je suis libérée de cette peur constante que j’avais avant et de cette obsession. A quel prix ? En 5 mois j’ai pris 3 kg.
Mais j’ai encore beaucoup de pain sur la planche et je continue à évoluer tous les jours. Je suis tellement satisfaite que j’ai de plus en plus envie de partager ça avec vous! Car j’ai déjà réussi : Je suis HEUREUSE !! .

This is currently my favorite breakfast: quarck mixed with (vanilla) yoghurt, eat natural protein packed super granola, oatmeal & soy protein. 🥄 Today I’d like to write a small post about fullness / satisfaction. To me it’s simple now: I make an amount that ‘seems’ right, if I still have food thoughts after eating; I make more food (and feel intuitively what it is that I want). I have no trouble with a second (or third) portion of breakfast (etc.). Back in the eating disorder & disordered eating days, I would decide with my head how much I could have. After that I quickly went on with doing something else, to not ‘graze on more’. Now I know better: there is a good reason why you think about food. (Yes, also in extreme hunger and/or bed recovery). No matter if you eat more than your friends/family/partner, no matter.. (etc.), in all cases: allowing yourself to heal, through eating and drinking whatever and how much you feel like.. will change you as a person. Will give you freedom. Will be totally worth it. 🧡

It's such a common one to recommend people to just eat vegetables when they're hungry. Celery burns more calories eating it than it actually contains. BIG WOOP🙄

If you're not in the mood for vegetables then your body may well be worse off for eating them, when it is clearly communicating with you that they aren't what you want or need. Of course, some people's dialogue with the body is completely off, in which case there are many, many amazing dietitians out there who can assist you in recovery.

From my own experience, I've realised that binging behaviours, like stuffing in carrot sticks, are not the way to combat other binging behaviours. The cycle of self flagellation had to stop! .

Let’s talk about the REAL danger here. Diet culture causes children as young as 3 to fear being fat. And weight cycling (the most common outcome of dieting) contributes to high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes; all the things that our culture attributes to being larger. Before and after.... can’t eat much but I am so happy to be able to eat at restaurants again! I work in the restaurant industry so eating out is a huge part of my life. It was a struggle immediately after surgery. -

When you go out don’t be afraid to ask for modifications or things on the side. I wanted steak but didn’t want broccoli or potatoes, so I asked if I could get a side of steak and a side of a different veg. Sometimes I get just an appetizer, other times I get a side of fish and eat my husbands sides. Make the menu work for YOU. -

🐰 HAPPY EASTER! 🐥 If you’re celebrating today, I hope it’s wonderful. To anyone who suffers with a toxic relationship with food, any form of disordered eating or who is in recovery from an eating disorder, I know this period can be really rough. BUT, remember that YOU are always in full control, not diet culture or the nasty voices inside your head. If you feel like you need permission to eat today, firstly, you don’t, but secondly, take THIS as permission. 
You are ALLOWED to eat chocolate and sweets and ENJOY eating them! You do not need to restrict or deprive yourself of things you KNOW will taste amazing. It’s okay! You do not need to ‘earn’ chocolate or ‘work it off’ tomorrow - regardless of how much you eat today, you must still eat tomorrow. 
Please fill your stomach with chocolaty goodness today if you’re craving it - you deserve it! You do not ever need to punish yourself for doing so and never feel like your value is determined by your calorie intake because it is NOT.

Frühschicht Nr. 2 steht an und ich bin hundemüde 😴
Gestern waren wir unglaublich faul 🤣🤦‍♀️
Ich hab nur Fotos von meinen Kuchen gemacht und war in der Sonne gesessen, ich glaub ich bin nicht mal auf 5000 Schritte gekommen 🙈
Dafür ist heute ein aktiver Tag, Legday steht an, da muss ich einfach gut Gas geben und schon ist der Tag von gestern ausgeglichen 😊👍🏼 und gegessen habe ich gestern auch nicht so wahnsinnig viel 😊 ich tracke zur Zeit wieder ein bisschen weil ich einfach nie auf mein Fett komme und weil das so ungesund ist, muss ich das ändern 😊👍🏼
Aber ich hab gestern schon gesehen, dass es mir Nüssen und Nussmus gar kein Problem ist 😊😍

Boundaries = promises that we keep to ourselves.⁣⁣

Such a simple concept but something I realized I had been breaking to myself for too long. I was constantly worried about the opinions and feelings of others, I compromised my own promises and worth to fulfill others requests. What I’ve learned is that by doing so I’ve created evidence in my body to not trust myself. For as long as I can remember I have only half-heartedly trusted myself or my intuition. One of our greatest gifts from God is complete and total trust of what our bodies are telling us, and I had completely surrendered that to the opinion & expectation of others. 😱 #whythough ⁣⁣

As soon as I embodied this, I made a significant shift. I no longer need the opinion or approval of others to find my worth. My close friends have even noticed how I’m speaking about certain situations in my life have completely shifted. I’ve built a feeling of safety within myself because of this change. I am no longer afraid to share the hard stuff. This is what creates connection, vulnerability and what makes us a real human. ⁣⁣

I will openly speak about what I need and I don’t fear telling others what they are doing is wrong or is hurting me or others. I am by no means perfect at this, but I work hard everyday to stop living in fear and stop playing small. ⁣⁣

To show up for myself I’ve been waking up early, following an intuitive based morning routine and then I choose to move my body in a way that feels energizing. Not working out “because I have too.”⁣⁣
See the shift in my language there. 👆🏻 ⁣⁣
Instead of self sabotaging my time by sleeping in or “running out of time” during the day my beliefs support the actions I want to follow through with each day that I know make me FEEL GOOD. ⁣⁣

I am and have committed to showing up for myself and creating new evidence in my body that I stick to the promises I make to myself. This then builds the confidence and trust in me alone, not in anything outside of myself. ⁣⁣
Because if I don’t show up for myself, who else will?⁣⁣

I get this one a lot.

Fearful of higher calorie options or larger meals.

It just means you filled up your gas tank more than you would have with a smaller meal. And soooooo that just means you may feel like you can go longer before you need to fill up again. End of story.

This fear goes away when you learn that you can trust your car.

“Clean eating" is such a slippery slope that often starts harmlessly enough, with the hope of improving health through some simple changes to one's eating.
.
But with the false sense of control that this often brings in the beginning comes the temptation to cut out more and more ingredients or food groups with the belief that we can manage the minutiae of our bodies and engineer our health through each individual bite.
.
This quickly becomes unsustainable as food takes on moral value and the fears of "being bad" or eating "impure" foods drives increasingly obsessive behavior and induces a stress response.
.
The delusion of "perfect" eating and the feelings of personal, moral failure when this (inevitably) isn't achieved are a set up for self-hatred and hopelessness, and so as long as food shame remains, one's attempts at "clean eating" will never feel good enough.

If you're stuck in this self-defeating cycle and struggling to see a way out, there is no shame in asking for help. Diet culture's grips are strong and the myth of the thin ideal is so alluring. But you deserve a life free from body obsession and food shame, and I assure you, it is possible.

I used to dread holidays. I would anticipate them for weeks, worrying about how I was going to stick to my rigid eating and exercise regimen, you know, with all that CELEBRATING going on.

I'd get even more restrictive in the days before, feel guilty and anxious during, and then compensate after. I'd feel so much relief when I could go back to my "perfect" routine.

Who's been there?

That's perhaps the best (hard to choose just one favorite thing) about healing your relationship with food and your body - it allows mental and emotional energy for things that really matter.

Once again, as we celebrate a holiday, I feel SO grateful. Being afraid kept me distracted and stuck. Being at peace means that fear is no longer hijacking my values. I can be fully present as I celebrate my faith and gratitude for Jesus Christ with my family this weekend (eating yummy food that I spent no time thinking about about beforehand and haven't thought about since). You deserve that same peace! Whatever matters to you deserves your full attention. You can learn to trust your body, to self-moderate without foods rules (yes, even on weekends, holidays and vacations!) and to feel confident in your food decisions.

Wot a blessed 3 days of religious fasting my husband and i had Thursday - Saturday for the white days of the Islamic month of Shabaan 1440. 
Today is a refeeding day for me as i will fast again on Monday. Its important for women especially to really learn how to use fasting effectively with their hormones. Fasting too often or too long or fasting in which u dont refeed effeciently can cause disruptions of the monthly cycle which governs a woman's Physiology. This, among other things will be one of the topics i will cover in the Women's seminaar coming in July 😁 Yes, one event only so book the 13th July and meet me in Cape Town 💖

This morning my breakfast is a plate of goodness. Fried eggs - chicken hotdogs - tomato - cucumber and toasted bran bread with cream cheese 👌 Yummo for a tummy. This will b worked off easily enough as i have a full day of exams ahead. Principles of Disease theory in the morning and OSPE in the afternoon 😳 Coffee to b had for sure (coming tomorrow - coffee and fasting). Wishing u all a smashing Sunday 💖

Friendly reminder to stop and smell the flowers this weekend!🌷 Speaking of smell— I am chatting about my arm pits in my latest insta story...I’m back off deodorant and really sad that my fave company from a couple years ago was bought out by big biz and totally changed their ingredients. "The learning is in the doing."💕—Secret is out: I don’t believe in failure. I believe in feeling like a failure (and have many times), but I don’t believe in failing. Why? Because we learn from doing. This is something I stress to every client, family/friends, and myself daily. The real learnings happen in between the sessions & the (literal) lessons.

For example, if you’re working on honoring your fullness but if you have no idea what satisfactory fullness feels like in your body, then you need to go out there and DO-- listen to your body and explore so you can one day learn what that actually feels like in your own body. And yes, if this isn’t familiar to you, you’ll need to try many times to see. And no, you won’t always be perfect. In eating and living (and life!) there’s no such thing as “perfect.” But over time, you’ll learn more about what feels better and best in YOUR body 🌟If you’re looking to heal, you’ll need to learn to safely move through feelings, create boundaries, & discover what helps you do that. Then keep them there, esp with certain individuals. If you’re looking to find movement that feels good in your body, the only way you’ll learn is if you try and DO and see what you actually enjoy. If you’re looking to make peace with food, you’ll need to actively challenge and examine the rules you have around it, the “good” or “bad” thinking and the voice you have in your head that tells you eating or not eating something makes you superior... or safe from your body changing. 
Bottomline: You won’t learn any of this stuff until you DO. TAKE ACTION. The learning is in the doing. And in the *doing* you will have many ups and downs. BUT, that is where you LEARN and GROW and EVOLVE 🌟So please tell that perfectionist part of you to chill ouuuuut. Instead of being terrified to shift, change or start--just go for it, feel the fear and do it. Because you’re going to learn SO much in your *doing. More than you could ever imagine. The key though: to just take it in. DO NOT judge yourself! Instead, just gather information so you can learn more about yourself holistically however that looks for YOU🖤

Happy Easter! 🐣🐰Recently, there was an article shared on the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics smart-brief email giving tips of swapping toys for candy, give them on piece of candy, and (my favorite) encouraging kids to “burn off”  their piece of candy with exercise. 😡 .

Food rules and restrictions don’t need to be pushed on our children! This is only encouraging diet culture. There are no good or bad foods. By allowing our kids to enjoy some candy together regularly only shows and encourages healthy relationships with food-not imposing restrictions and guilt. When children establish positive food behaviors they can self regulate their intake of all foods when not seeing certain food as forbidden. .

Easter egg hunts should be a time kids look back on as happy memories. Sharing time together and enjoying some family favorite food dishes. I hope everyone has a blessed Easter and enjoys time with family and loved ones. 💕-Amanda .

I’m normally a pretty early big brekkie girl but it’s school holidays and I’m not training at the moment, so going with the flow with my eating.
These post dog walk toasts were definitely worth waiting for 🙌

Toasted gluten free sourdough topped with the incred combo of whisked @nushfoods almond milk yoghurt and cheese, @kin_nutrition vegan protein and a drizzle of @thegroovyfoodcompany agave 👌, warmed morello cherries 🍒 and a generous drizzle of the new @pipandnut cherry bakewell almond butter 😍😍. Finished a lil sprinkle of granola and a few pistachios 😉

😐If you think clinicians are immune to diet talk, or that it’s less annoying, or that our family hears what we’re saying differently- it’s not true!
.
🙉Today I got to listen to my mom go on and on and on about her eating and the foods she gave up for lent (dessert) and how much of it she’s going to eat tomorrow. It’s diet talk and it’s really not for lent (even though it may be in the name of lent, don’t be fooled, it wasn’t about that at all).
.
🙈The sad thing is, I watch people around her applaud what she’s “done” and admire her “will power.” And I watched it over and over, because of course, she had to talk about it all day. It’s nauseating. It’s diet culture. And it sucks.
.
⤵️Today I had to constantly redirect the conversation or leave. I hope one day she’ll be able to hear the haes and intuitive eating message and understand the benefits, but currently she’s trapped.
.
😡If you’re feeling frustrated (like me) or were triggered or harmed by diet talk. hang in there. Redirect the conversation, leave the room, distract, and reach out for support. Take care of yourself and do what you need to do for you.
.
💕You are not alone!  There’s so much freedom in rejecting diet culture. Hopefully, one day, all our loved ones will be able to see it too. ❤️

️This is for all of you spending time with family this weekend and hearing all the diet talk (whether overt, about the holiday, or disguised as “wellness” and “health”). Know that you’re not alone. 🤗 . 😐If you think clinicians are immune to diet talk, or that it’s less annoying, or that our family hears what we’re saying differently- it’s not true! . Today I got to listen to my mom go on and on and on about her eating and the foods she gave up for lent (dessert) and how much of it she’s going to eat tomorrow. It’s diet talk and it’s really not for lent (even though it may be in the name of lent, don’t be fooled, it wasn’t about that at all). . The sad thing is, I watch people around her applaud what she’s “done” and admire her “will power.” And I watched it over and over, because of course, she had to talk about it all day. It’s nauseating. It’s diet culture. And it sucks. . ️Today I had to constantly redirect the conversation or leave. I hope one day she’ll be able to hear the haes and intuitive eating message and understand the benefits, but currently she’s trapped. . If you’re feeling frustrated (like me) or were triggered or harmed by diet talk. hang in there. Redirect the conversation, leave the room, distract, and reach out for support. Take care of yourself and do what you need to do for you. . You are not alone! There’s so much freedom in rejecting diet culture. Hopefully, one day, all our loved ones will be able to see it too. ️ - 3 hours ago

I usually love this page, but it seems more and more lately any big Instagram page pushes the diet mentality on people, makes me sad, but this is my way of challenging it. I am especially disappointed cause this exact page recently branched off to do a mental health page..You can’t normalize diet culture and try to support others well being.. The two do no go hand in hand. Anyways though, honor your cravings, listen to your body, f*ck diet culture. Noodles with spinach pesto (raw spinach + basil + olive oil + a tiny bit of parm, blended with an immersion blender,) and sweet peas sauteed with spring onion...yeah. I can get used to this. ⁣

I did it! I managed to put together an Easter basket (that I think Rayla will actually like) without including candy. We did put some candy in the eggs (but some have candy and some have $$$).

I'm not against our kids having candy and I feel like restricting them would turn into a problem later on - but I still struggle with how much to allow and when to cut it off if it looks like Rayla isn't going to stop on her own. It can be such an internal battle sometimes!
(...Especially working in the health and fitness industry and seeing how much our relationship with food can impact our lives!)

When I went through the #intuitiveeating counseling certification course - we read several studies which showed that
it can definitely backfire when parents attempt to restrict their children's eating - because restriction (or forcing them to eat certain things) can disconnect the child from their natural hunger and satiety cues - ultimately creating the very problem the parent is trying to avoid!

Anyhow...I'm pretty happy with this year's balance of candy and fun stuff. I'll report in my stories if Rayla ends up feeling the same way.🙏 😂😂

Guess what?  Chocolate, and any food for that matter, becomes significantly more charged, intense, and difficult when you restrict it.

Easter, Halloween, and other holidays turn into "Oh No, the food!" days instead of another day that you get to enjoy tasty foods just like the other 360-some. 
Are there some special foods that only come out at certain times of year? Sure.

But if chocolate (or the category of "tasty foods I love") is allowed all year long, it won't be a dramatic shift to include a *different* kind of chocolate at Easter.  Rather than feel overwhelmed and anxious, you'll look forward to it in a joyous but relaxed way. And you'll eat without guilt.

Tomorrow is Easter, which for many of us means lots of chocolate and candies in those Easter baskets. Rather than mindlessly munching because it’s in front of you, eat because you want the chocolate. Because it will taste good. Because you’d enjoy the sensation. Not as a cheat or a treat or because you exercised enough this week. And remember to be kind to yourself in the process! ✨

EASTER REFLECTIONS 🐇

This Easter I've been taking time to reflect on where I'm at in life (personal, career, family) and it's feeling like a time for new beginnings. But what hasn't changed is my food philosophy: #eatengageenjoy.
.
It might not be the name of this page anymore, but especially at Easter I felt it was important to reflect on these principles and what they mean as posts about restriction, feelings of guilt and "repercussions" of Easter eating come around.
.
Easter in the new year is a great time to reflect on new starts, be with family and friends, and take a break from our stressful lives. The message I want to send out is...
.
1. If you feel like eating chocolate, hot cross buns etc. GO FOR IT. If you don't feel like it, it's okay to say no too. Food is not inherently good or bad, nor is a day of eating certain foods going to impact your overall nutrition.
.
2. Engage with others, your food and yourself. Appreciate the day for what it is and take time to be aware of the way that food and family have brought joy into your life.
.
3. Enjoy your day, enjoy your food and enjoy the time spent with loved ones. There is nothing shameful about eating or giving yourself permission to enjoy your favourite treats (as much as our culture would like to have us think).
