"The learning is in the doing."—Secret is out: I don’t believe in failure. I believe in feeling like a failure (and have many times), but I don’t believe in failing. Why? Because we learn from doing. This is something I stress to every client, family/friends, and myself daily. The real learnings happen in between the sessions & the (literal) lessons.
For example, if you’re working on honoring your fullness but if you have no idea what satisfactory fullness feels like in your body, then you need to go out there and DO-- listen to your body and explore so you can one day learn what that actually feels like in your own body. And yes, if this isn’t familiar to you, you’ll need to try many times to see. And no, you won’t always be perfect. In eating and living (and life!) there’s no such thing as “perfect.” But over time, you’ll learn more about what feels better and best in YOUR body If you’re looking to heal, you’ll need to learn to safely move through feelings, create boundaries, & discover what helps you do that. Then keep them there, esp with certain individuals. If you’re looking to find movement that feels good in your body, the only way you’ll learn is if you try and DO and see what you actually enjoy. If you’re looking to make peace with food, you’ll need to actively challenge and examine the rules you have around it, the “good” or “bad” thinking and the voice you have in your head that tells you eating or not eating something makes you superior... or safe from your body changing.
Bottomline: You won’t learn any of this stuff until you DO. TAKE ACTION. The learning is in the doing. And in the *doing* you will have many ups and downs. BUT, that is where you LEARN and GROW and EVOLVE So please tell that perfectionist part of you to chill ouuuuut. Instead of being terrified to shift, change or start--just go for it, feel the fear and do it. Because you’re going to learn SO much in your *doing. More than you could ever imagine. The key though: to just take it in. DO NOT judge yourself! Instead, just gather information so you can learn more about yourself holistically however that looks for YOU🖤
