OUR READERS: I started @estilamag out of my frustrations with online and office content overload. I found it difficult to find inspiring, motivating and intelligent content among all the crap. I reached a stage in my life where I didn’t want to be influenced anymore. I didn’t want to be told what to put on my walls, what trends to wear and how to xyz. As a creative, I wanted to hear/read meaningful, real stories that I would learn from. I knew that behind every success story there are unimaginative struggles. So I wanted to share those stories and put them in front of anyone who would take time and read them.
I had zero experience when I started out. But as I was learning more about creating and distributing content, I realised how dated the system was. It’s an old, slow moving beast. So I made a few changes: 1/ I removed advertising and sponsored content from all channels. Which is like a business suicide! I mean, who would do that?? But the great thing is that we control our content fully. We don’t have to create articles which suppose to look like it’s something we believe it. Every piece of content we produce, we truly believe in because we curated it ourselves. Every story we tell is real and has something to offer. It may even spark ideas. It connects.
2/ We transitioned to subscription only. This way we communicate directly with our readers who become our loyal cheerleaders and ambassadors. The downside of this is that our dependency on them is sky high. There is a notion that magazines as an authoritative voice are fine. We’re not. Yes, digitally we perform exceptionally well. We reach millions, have high page views and engagement. But in the physical world is a different story. We are okay though because we can manage this ..just. But we wouldn’t be able to do that without our readers who buy our subscriptions. .
So I want to thank everyone who support us and who buys our bookazines. You don’t know how much £7 or £28 can help us. To you it might be insignificant but to us it makes a massive difference. You help us to do the things we do and want to do in future. Thank you!
