This resonates so strongly today. I watched a coworker break today because a manager demeaned her for helping her coworker train me. Her work was done, he was behind, and all I needed a simple review. She was nice and went out of her way to help both myself and my trainer only to be left feeling “demoralized.” I have a lead who is so kind but no one takes the time to get to know him. He’s a navy veteran with a family. His wife takes his kids to get their hair cut, they just bought a house, his kids think he looks like the bald kid from Dragon Ball Z. He has a sticky note under his monitor that I wrote him that says “you’re a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day.” He’s been described as unapproachable. I go to him for any question I have and he’s always happy to help. An older woman I work with went to Tennessee to take care of her sick son. I saw her on her first day back and all she said was “What a beautiful smile to see on my first day back here!” Last week she brought me two cucumbers from her garden for Ryot. An older man I work with loves comic books and tells me every single time there’s an event going on in the Phoenix metro. Today at lunch he told me he misses hearing my laugh on his side of the office. I guess what I’m saying is, I feel important and appreciated and wanted and all of the things we all want to feel and I got there by being nice. Please, just be nice to someone today. Make a difference; I promise you someone will eventually tell you to “never lose the happiness you exude” because it’s so rare.
