We've been mislead to believe that self-sacrifice is always equivalent to love. That it is noble and good. That it's to be celebrated. So, we run ourselves ragged, saving the world, taking care of everyone else, while neglecting our needs and wants, until our spirits and our bodies can no longer take it...and begin to break down.
We bury ourselves in our careers, children, our spouses and our community so much that we forget the sound of our own intuition. The sound of our True North. And without that sound...we get lost.
We get sick - spirit, soul and body.
There is an increase in hormone imbalances, autoimmune and digestive disorders and chronic conditions. And it's not just because we eat worse than any generation before us.
It's because we lost ourselves, and our spirit can no longer communicate with our body and mind. "Love your neighbor as you love yourself," says a sacred text. And we focus so much on the first portion of it so much that we turn a blind eye to the second, which is the foundation of it all. "Love yourself first, so you can love your neighbor (your loved one)", it should read instead. And in that you'll fulfill the divine command.
We don't need any more run down, overworked, overcommitted mothers, wives, business owners and partners. We've been programmed by our culture, religion and our parents to forget who we are for the sake of others. The world has not been better off for it.
What we need is women who are so in tune with their identity, their purpose and their calling; women who are in love with their bodies and their minds, that they will lead their kids, companies and communities by example to be the best version of themselves.
That's how we can heal our bodies, rid our spirit of anxiety and depression, and unleash humanity to its full potential.
Fall in love with yourself.
Remember who you are born to be.
Put on your oxygen mask first.
Then, and only then take a leap and save the world, so we ALL can prosper and be in good health.
Comment AMEN if you agree.
