“May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face shine on us— so that your ways may be known on earth,
your salvation among all NATIONS.
May the peoples praise you, God;
may all the peoples praise you.
May the NATIONS be glad and sing for joy.” Psalm 67:1-3
Why host international students? Because God’s heart is for ALL NATIONS. Why open your home and your hearts? Because you will be richer for it. We sure are. And our children, too.
Over the years we have had students from Libya, China, Pakistan, Japan, Korea, Saudi Arabia, and now, Iran, stay with us. What a joy it is to get to know people from other countries and cultures.
Today we celebrated Farbod’s birthday. A PhD student from Iran, he is currently separated from his wife and daughter while they both pursue an intense line of study here in the States, thousands of miles away from home and even thousands of miles away from each other (she is pursuing her degree in Nebraska) We have considered it a privilege to serve as his surrogate family this school year, and I’m pretty sure he has blessed us more than we could ever have served him in opening our home to him. (He even helped us get a piano for our girls because he loves for kids to learn instruments!) He is a harder worker, a problems solver, has an extremely generous heart and walks around with joy and gratitude. We are so blessed to know him and get to celebrate his life with him this year. Happy Birthday, Farbod!
