Switching it up a bit today. Might watch something later, but really happy to have finished #PeterClines 14. It’s the first in the Threshold series that continues into #TheFold . Clines is a fellow New Englander, but from Maine. Lotta good #horror writers from there!
It’s the story of a young guy named Nate, looking for an affordable apartment in LA. He gets pointed to a strange building on the east side. The other inhabitants, like him pay little rent & are mostly outcasts, saving up for a future place.
He starts to notice strange irregularities. There are no power lines leading into the place, but it has power. He meets a neighbor, Veek, who has set up WiFi for everyone for a nominal price. New neighbor, Tim, might have his own secret. But nothing matches the mystery that is the Kovach Building.
The Scooby crew try to solve that mystery, but some things should remain hidden. Welcome to a world with a great machine that keeps reality in check, a suicide cult that wants the end of the world, Lovecraftian type creatures & alternate dimensions.
It is not a quick read. The prose is dense. My version had page numbers that were difficult to read, small & in light print, which I use to drive my reading. I like the accomplishment of making progress.
It’s really more of a #mystery than #horrorbook . And you guys know I like my mysteries. Immediately launching into the next one in the Threshold series #TheFold .
Oh, and in a million years, you’ll never guess who or what is behind the door of apartment 14. #books #horrorbooks #mysterybooks #mysterybook - 2 days ago
