Desert Rose- flowers of the lovely Adenium Plant.
Adenium is a popular house plant because of its beautiful bonsai look and pretty flowers.
It is actually a thick, bushy succulent found originally in desert areas. The flowers of its are yellow, white, red or pink in shades.
Here i am sharing some facts and care tips about Adenium.
Sunlight- adenium requires full sunlight for proper growth (6 hours per day)These flowering plants grow well in desert settings and will bloom beautifully with full, bright sun. They can also do well with bright morning sun or bright afternoon sun but may not flower as heavy. If kept in the shade, these plants become leggy and weak-stemmed and gives no blooms.
Watering- Some say it is best to think of your Adenium as a tropical plant in the spring and summer and as a cactus in the autumn and winter. So as per this water them daily during hot summers while in winters allow the soil to dry out in between the watering. Never let soil become so wet but moist only. Drainage system should be very proper. Never allow water to stand in the bottom saucer.
Pot or container- As adenium plant has thick and heavy stems, use sturdy container of any material. However use of terracotta or clay pot is good because the porous nature of them is good for air circulation. Place lots of pebbles or stones at the bottom for good water drainage.
Fertilizer- one can use good light feeding or slow releasing organic or liquid fertilizer for Adenium during growing season that is summer. In winters plant goes into dormant state so stop feeding it with fertilizer
Cutting and Pruning- Because these plants can grow quite large, pruning is essential to keep them manageable.Cut the stems and well pruned the plant in winter season to retain its beautiful bonsai shape. Stop pruning in summer.
NOTE- sap of this plant is poisonous. Keep away from kids and animals.
