*REPOSTED with more 📸 This shoot was my first time swimming underwater. I’d never even been fully submerged without plugging my nose.
There’s a stereotype that black people aren’t water people… for me that was true. Even to this day, after failing level 2 swimming lessons (twice), the only stroke that I’ve mastered is the “stay alive.”🏊🏽♀️😂 But the first time I saw @kelhsiao ‘s breath taking photos, I felt a nudge inside. For some reason, giving this a shot didn’t seem like a crazy idea.
In the days leading up to the shoot, I felt it:
But working with Kelly was the best experience I could have hoped for. She taught me to breathe, prepared my mind and despite the butterflies, I found my center.
When I heard this song the night before the shoot, I knew right away that it was my underwater anthem.
I sunk into the melody as it played in my head and I surrendered to the water 🌊✨🎶 Growth can be scary, but we don’t have to conquer all our fears in a day. The key is in knowing how to listen, because some days you’ll hear a whisper and going for it won’t seem totally crazy.
Then, when you do, it might just take your breath away ✊🏽🌸🧜🏽♀️ #healthempowerment #believeinyourself - 48 minutes ago
