From a health perspective, I am living with a multitude of conditions: Fibromyalgia, Borderline Personality Disorder, and PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). At one point in time, I was on 6-8 pills a day to manage my hormone levels, pain symptoms, and anxiety. Before I ever heard of medicinal cannabis, I thought I would be on these medications for the rest of my life. I felt powerless to my health and body. I felt like I had no control and had to follow what the doctors were telling me. I can honestly say, I lost a bit of myself through these medications and diagnosis’... that is, until I found Cannabis.
Marijuana, Ganja, Weed, Pot, Kush, Cannabis... this plant goes by many names all around the world. And despite the stories we were told growing up - that those who smoke cannabis regularly are ‘stoners’ who do nothing with their life - Cannabis culture is evolving to include mothers who smoke, doctors who smoke, teachers who smoke, and many others who find cannabis to be a helpful, holistic supplement in their daily life.
With today being 420, or the day when many feel they can speak openly about their cannabis use, I hope we can all learn more about the stigmas facing those who utilize this plant and recognize that there are many reasons people feel drawn to it. Whether you use cannabis for recreation, spiritual enlightenment, or medicinal uses, I hope you remember that you are not alone, you are not the stigma, and the world is slowly becoming more accepting of those who see the positive aspects of this ‘drug’.
Happy 420 fellow stoners.
