Let this sink in for a minute! “YOUR fear of CHANGE should be set aside for the HEALTH of your CHILDREN as well” (Or if you’re a Nanny? The children watching YOU)
Remember that old saying “do as I say, not as I do”
Yea that’s bull... sorry- it just is!
Kids learn by example! So if you tell them “don’t lie”, “don’t drink pop”, “don’t eat crappy food”, “don’t cheat”, “don’t steal”, “don’t smoke” dont..... BUT you turn around and do those things? They will too. Not ALWAYS, but often- and more times than not.. In terms of living a healthy lifestyle... kids are NOT in control. WE as the parents or nannies (since I have a lot of Nanny followers 🙂 ) are.
When you run through the drive thru multiple times a week, order pizza in, cave to the chicken nugget and Mac n cheese only diet- you are teaching them that is ok. When you don’t encourage physical activity and settle for TV and video game time because it’s “easy” for YOU- you’re teaching them that lifestyle is ok.
And honestly- it’s not.
But you know what the cool thing is? Once we know better? We can DO better! (And I’m setting some goals to improve too!) Think right now. The way you eat. Your level of activity. Your habits. Your work ethic. Your integrity. The way you treat people, and the things you say. IS THAT THE EXACT WAY YOU WILL WANT YOUR CHILDREN ACTING AS A GROWN UP?
If you answered NO to any of those things- something needs to change.
So in terms of health and fitness.. where can you start!? FIRST- Make a change in YOUR own life. If you’re not taking care of you? START! (I can even help! Get yourself on a workout and nutrition plan.
SECOND- get your kids involved! Be more active WITH them. Make it fun. Do less dinner dates, and more adventure dates such as hiking, biking, trips to parks etc. Introduce new healthy foods. YOU are in control of what comes in the house. YOU are in control of what they order at restaurants. So start guiding them. That’s how they learn.
And TALK to them about WHY we need to live a healthier life. Focus on HEALTH and all the benefits good health provides. Don’t focus on weightloss or vanity... good health is so much more than that. - 3 hours ago
