Jamie Kernop, 17, of Sumiton, Alabama gained her angel wings on Oct 16, 2018 after she was shot and killed.
A juvenile is in custody and a second suspect still sought following Tuesday-afternoon shooting that left a 17-year-old teen deceased.
Sumiton police responded at 3:18pm to the Exxon gas station on Highway 78. Once on the scene, they found a man who had sustained a gunshot wounded to the arm. In the course of investigating that incident, they were led to a home on nearby Earley Street.
At the Earley Street residence, police found the teen girl, later was identified as Jamie Kernop, inside the home. She had been shot and was pronounced deceased on the scene. Another victim was found near the home. He was transported to the hospital. His condition was not immediately available.
Police stated that they believe all three were shot at the Earley Street house. The two male victims were able to escape through a window.
Kernop was the girlfriend to one of the other victims. Her body was taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for autopsy.
The chef said police are actively searching for second suspect. They have not yet released a possible motive in the triple shooting.
Prayers and thoughts sent to the victims affected. Our deepest condolences with Jamie’s family and friends.
Rest peacefully Jamie...
