Last friday, Gabe and I climbed Sacred Ground on Castleton tower, a seemingly appropriate name in this epic landscape.
Last year we attempted the north face route with Aaron , a bold attempt for Gabe's first chops at crack climbing, and perhaps a sandbag on my part..Unfortunately, after passing the crux, Gabe had a bout of nausea, Mcstiffed with food poisoning and we had to lower him down.
This year we came at it with fresh stomachs full of macadamia nut butter, pbr and a bit more experience with filling the space between, which all led to a successful summit up one of castleton's many gems.
Sacred indeed, I wonder what the people native to this valley thought about this obelisk towering between the mountains and the desert. Lately I've been grappling with the concept of sacred gatekeeping, the idea of holding space for the vulnerabilities of ourselves and those close to us, and the practice of letting the right energy in and keeping the wrong energy out. We all set boundaries to insulate us from life's worries, to keep our sanity focused and on the path we have chosen. But in many ways the chaos we let into our lives is what forces us to grow in ways that we cannot predict or foresee. Often it is the overcoming of this chaos that binds us together and gives us strength. I'm very grateful to have shared the past three weekends in the desert with some beautiful people, friends and strangers alike.. #climbing #rockclimbing #crackclimbing #desert #therapy #letgo #nature 's #embryo #attitudeofgratitude #knowledgereignssupreme #sacred #gate #moab #utah #castleton - 2 hours ago
