While I’d like to think the CrossFitting while eating #paleo trend is dying, I’m sure it’s still alive and well in many places. .

I love CF.  I also think eating a more Whole Foods diet such as Paleo is a great approach. However, the two don’t mix well long term very well. Any low carb eating approach coupled with a high intensity form of  training isn’t ideal. .

Our body has 3 main energy systems. We have our ATP-PC energy system which is fast energy for bursts of activity lasting up to about 10 seconds- think of a max deadlift.  For bursts of activity from 30 seconds to 2 minutes we are using the lactic acid system. Both of these systems you see are used for short and fast bursts of energy. We tap into these a lot for lifting weights, sprinting, jumping and going all out.  These energy systems run off of glucose that is stored in our muscles and liver. We get glucose from carbs. If we are eating a low carb diet that is high in fat and trying to perform high intensity exercise regularly, we won’t have the glycogen stored in our body to let us tap into the fuel sources we need to perform efficiently. .

On top of this, extended low carb diets increase cortisol output.  Add this into life stresses and a workout that places even more stress on the body, we have a recipe for chronic elevated cortisol.  This is going to affect our sleep and recovery and any weight loss efforts should that be a goal. .

Carbs have gotten a bad rap recently and the truth is, everyone’s needs will vary greatly depending on their goals and lifestyle.  Most people don’t need 300g + of carbs a day, but we don’t have to fear them either. It’s easy to remove a food group and lose weight which is why low carb diets work.  But those diets aren’t working because carbs are evil. They are working because you are reducing your overall caloric intake by cutting out an entire macro nutrient. .

Carbs absolutely have a place in a well rounded diet and if you are wanting to have energy and are active, you absolutely can and should include them in your diet!  By doing so, you may find you have more stamina and energy, handle stress better and recover faster!

Pizza on a thursday? Who am I? 🤷‍♀️

I used to live by following all these useless rules:
❕I am only allowed to eat at certain hours a day.
❕No 🍕🥐🍔🍟🍹 during the week.
❕No sugary drinks!
❕One cheat meal on a saturday.
❕Be aware of calories.
❕Workout 5-6 times per week.
.
I think one of the reasons we make these rules is something traumatic and uncontrolable may happen in our lives so we make up these rules to try to take back control. And is exhausting living like this:
➡️ Constantly in battle with myself.
➡️ Blaming myself.
➡️ Feeling guilty when I ate 🍫🍬 or when I took a rest day.
.
The sad thing is I haven't even realized how much dieting was consuming and ruining my life. I just felt how mentally exhausted I was, how unhappy I was, how irratable.
.
So there is no way I am going back. I deserve to be happy, to see the beauty of life, to enjoy all the foods life has to offer. Now I try to live by these mantras:
1️⃣ Smile, laugh, talk, breathe the fresh air, enjoy life.
2️⃣ Always eat when you're hungry (even if it's 9 pm, even if you just ate...)
3️⃣ Move your body but do workouts you actually enjoy. And workout when you feel like it - you don't have to workout every day. Only going on a walk is completly okay.
4️⃣ No counting calories.
5️⃣ Try to weigh yourself way less.

Cauliflower and Zuchinni Latkes 
Makes 1 serving:

1 cup grated cauliflower
1/2 cup grated zucchini
1 chopped scallion or less
1/8 tsp Salt
¼ tsp Pepper
¼ tsp Garlic powder
1 egg and 1 egg white

Drain the grated cauliflower and zucchini of excess water (Wrap in paper towels and squeeze). Mix everything together and fry small pancakes in a pan with cooking spray.

BEST SKINNY EGGPLANT ROLLATINI WITH SPINACH⠀
2 medium Italian eggplants, cut lengthwise 
salt and black pepper, to taste⠀
1 1/2 cups  marinara sauce⠀
1 large egg⠀
1/2 cup part skim ricotta cheese⠀
1/2 cup grated Pecorino Romano cheese, plus more for serving⠀
8 oz frozen spinach, heated through and squeezed well⠀
1 garlic clove, minced⠀
1 cup (4 oz) shredded part-skim mozzarella ⠀
DIRECTIONS:⠀
Cut the 2 ends off the eggplants. Cut the eggplants lengthwise, into 1/4-inch thick slices until you have a total of 10 slices about the same size. It’s easiest to do this with a mandolin. 
Sprinkle the eggplant with kosher salt to help remove excess moisture and bitterness from the eggplants. Set aside for about 10 to 15 minutes. Pat dry with a towel.⠀
Preheat oven to 400°F.  Season the eggplant with a little more salt and pepper,  then arrange on two parchment-lined baking sheets.  Cover tightly with foil and bake until eggplant is tender and pliable but NOT fully cooked, about 8 to 10 minutes.⠀
Spread 1/4 cup marinara sauce on the bottom of a 13 x 9-inch baking dish.⠀
In a medium bowl, beat the egg then mix together with ricotta, Pecorino Romano, spinach, garlic, 1/4 tsp salt and 1/8 tsp pepper.⠀
Pat eggplant dry with paper towels.  Dividing the ricotta-spinach mixture  evenly and spoon onto one end of each eggplant slice, spreading to cover.  Roll up slices and arrange them each seam side down in the prepared dish.  Top with remaining marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese and tightly cover with foil.⠀
Bake until very tender, about 60 minutes.  Remove from oven and let cool 5 minutes before serving with additional Pecorino Romano if desired.⠀

#REPOST  @foodfuly with @get__repost__app bowl 🍲 Oven baked sweet potato topped with tahini, fried pimientos, roasted broccoli, avocado 🥑 and peas 😍😋💚. Who loves sweet potato as much as I do? 😁. During the last 3 days my histamine intolerance has gotten very intense, and I’ve been experiencing a lot of water retention. It’s annoying and uncomfortable 😣 but I try to look at it in a loving way and just be grateful for the past weeks and months, where it has really been so much better. Now it takes a bit of patience and consistency with my eating 🙏, a lot of relaxation and avoiding stress as much as possible to feel better. .

gimme all the creamy tahini garlic sauce 🔥 this gut-healing approved dins tonight is lookin’ hella good if I do say so myself! day four of this cleanse and I’m honestly feeling brand new 🙌🏻 best part is, I’m not missing a thing! I decided to put my body through a 10 day elimination diet for one sole reason: to cleanse my kidneys, lungs, liver, gallbladder and skin of any built-up “debris” as I like to call it! we all have it and overtime without a good cleanse it starts to build up inside creating symptoms of fatigue, brain fog, allergies, acne, bloat/gas and so much more. Why let the universe have time to conspire against me to delay my beginning? It’s ok if it’s not the first of the month, or the first day of the week.. Really though, these are SO GOOD.
Avocado facts: they contain tryptophan, folate, and vitamin B, all of which help to make serotonin in the body- mood regulation. Low serotonin levels are directly related to depression. 💔
OK ... let’s have a happy day: 
90g Avocado, mashed (1/2 an avocado)
1 whole Egg 🥚 
1 tbsp Coconut oil 🥥 
42g Collagen protein
112g (1.5c) Old Fashion Oats
2 tbsp Cacao powder 🍫 
1 tsp Baking soda
1 tsp Vanilla extract
1/4c Almond Milk 🥛 
1/2 tsp Himalayan Sea salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 
Blend avocado with egg, coconut oil, almond milk, and vanilla. 
Add oats, cocoa powder, baking soda and powder. Blend until creamy smooth. 
Spray an 8X8 baking dish and pour in brownie batter.
Bake for 20-24 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cut into 10 ish squares and GET HAPPPPPYYY 😊 .

BLUEBERRY QUINOA BREAKFAST BARS🤤 Simple, whole ingredients and a quick bite on the go for any busy start to the day! Recipe👇
- 1 1/2 cups quick cooking oats
- 1 cup cooked quinoa
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/3 cup coconut sugar
- 1/4 cup hemp seeds
- 1 cup mashed bananas about 2 medium
- 2 flax eggs (2 tablespoons flaxseed meal + 6 tablespoons of water)
- 2 tablespoons nut/seed butter
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla powder or extract
- 1 1/2 cups fresh blueberries

Mix all ingredients together and bake at 350 for 25-35 mins!
