A reminder that your recovery has to come first!! ✨✨I am grateful that this illness has taught me lots about the massive fuck up that is diet culture and I often share my new insights with friends and fam, but it is also ok to focus on fighting your own battle! ✨✨ Recently went out to dinner with a friend and she told me all about her new exercise regime and how she LoVeS broccoli over pizza now 🙃 Even though it literally pained me to hear how my friend has been brain washed by diet culture, I was struggling enough to do what I needed for my own recovery without taking on her disordered eating too. So I just disengaged from the convo and moved on to another topic. And while she ate her tiny ass salad, I got through my plate of sesame noodles like a boss 🤙✨✨ Next time tho ima StRoNgLy suggest we go out for pizza bc I know after our 12 yrs of friendship she actually loves that cheesy  goodness 😎

First day of 🔴 means shaky legs during my leg warmup/activation. Feeling super week today BUT I was determined to get a leg day in. I do have to say... I shouldn’t  of pushed myself so hard🙅🏼‍♀️. Feeling dizzy during parts of my workout 🌪but drinking a lot of water helped. .

I’m glad I didn’t lift super heavy. It’s dumb that I even lifted today😂 but If a girl is determined, shiiii happens 😂

LADIES. It’s great to workout on your period! Don’t do what I did today though HAHA If you’re feeling dizzy, stopppp, drink water or eat something. Everyone is different but lifting IS really physically demanding when it’s “that time of the month”. If your body can’t physically push, do yoga or go on a walk🧘🏼‍♀️🚶🏼‍♀️. Any kind of physical activity on your period, can ease your pain or discomfort. Endorphins solve everything y’all! 😂💪🏼

Your goals should scare the SH*T OUT OF YOU. 💩 I haven’t set any scary goals for awhile, so it’s time to change that. Starting this week, I’m setting TWO, HUGE, SCARY GOALS for myself. Are you ready?

1. Next Monday, I’m committing to 100 day fitness program. 100 different workouts for the next 3.5 months 😳 I’m also committing to going all in with my nutrition! 🥗 Does this mean no treats, going out to eat, or date nights? Absolutely not. I am determined to live my life AND focus on my nutrition. It is possible, peeps!

2. I am also committing to helping 100 people by the end of this year. Now THAT is a scary AF goal 😱 But that is such a huge passion point for me - helping others with their health, fitness, nutrition, mental health, personal development, and confidence. Whether it’s helping them find the right fitness or nutrition program, providing them with accountability, or giving them a community. I want to give 100 women hope that they can overcome their doubt and negativity. a massive part of eating disorder recovery is being able to eat foods that aren’t exactly pretty or deemed ‘healthy’ ! This is definitely something I struggle with as I feel the need to make all my food look so pretty and organise it - I also would feel uncomfortable sharing that I have eaten food such as cake - burgers- and fries because my mind tells me to feel guilty. But really I should be free! Eat whatever you like and it doesn’t matter what it looks like! 🙋🏼‍♀️One is working on food freedom and enjoying social events.
🙌🏼Another is incorporating more nutrient dense foods into their daily intake.
💦 And another is working on hydration.

I feel like reintroductions are in order since it’s been a while.

Hello lovely citizens of Instagram.  I’m Alyssa (formerly @lysslady), 29 years old, and Canadian, eh.

I identify as bi/queer and use she/her pronouns.

This account and my #boringactsofrecovery are a lot of things to me; a way to express myself and work through the things in my life, a place to learn and to grow, a platform to educate, advocate, and spread awareness, and a safe space for those who need one.

I live with an invisible disability called vasovagal syncope, chronic headaches, depression, and anxiety.  I’m in recovery for binge eating disorder and am doing my best to get out of that toxic diet culture mindset, instead focusing on personal body confidence and societal body positivity.  I’m also currently navigating my way through grief after the loss of someone very close to me.

When I’m not writing, I’m probably making.  I run an Etsy shop @thepearlandpetal where I make one of a kind flower, mermaid, and unicorn crowns.  Give us a follow to support small, female-owned businesses!  Starting in September I’ll also be a part-time after-school caregiver.

I love reading, and am always looking for recommendations.  If you’re into old movies, we’ll be instant friends.  A good outfit makes me happy.  And Jessica Fletcher is my idol.

I’ve gained so much knowledge in the past year and a half,
and although I am endlessly grateful for it all,
I wish someone had told it all to me when I was younger.

I needed to hear it.

I wish someone had said, “When your 5 year old ‘friend’ tells you that you’re chubby,
turn your cheek away. 
Trust your doctor who tells you that you’re in the perfect range.

When your parents tell you that something isn’t healthy,
understand that they’re not telling you to never eat it again,
or telling you that that one food will make you overweight.

Understand that the society we live in causes people to label foods healthy and unhealthy,
rather than expressing the reality that all foods in excess can be unhealthy, 
and all foods in moderation are perfectly healthy. 
When you become friends with a girl who won’t eat,
and you watch her grow smaller and smaller,
don’t take notes on what she is doing.

Listen to your dad when he tells you to bring more for lunch than fruit.

When that girl begins to consume all of your compassion and brainpower until there is none left for you,
listen to your parents when they tell you she doesn’t seem like the best for you.

Trust yourself when YOU begin to realize the relationship may not be the best, you’re smart.

Don’t ever start shutting your parents out, they are your biggest supporters.

Don’t start ignoring your body,
it has kept you breathing and living,
it is amazing.

Surround yourself always with people who make you laugh on end and make you feel good about yourself.

You are a beautiful, 
spirited,
kind hearted soul.

Growing up is hard and terrifying,
but don’t get this cruel society make you doubt yourself.”
