Motherhood in the raw: A story about our name Stella Stellina. ⠀⠀
When I was young I was diagnosed with PCOS. At 14 years old doctors told me ‘you will never conceive a child, and if you do the pregnancy won’t be viable’. So I lived my life wildly free & career driven. Happily devoted to my career as this was my biggest accomplishment and success. ⠀⠀
Fast forward 12 years.. I was engaged to an amazing Aussie. We celebrated with champagne and a few of our closest friends. My fiancé went back on tour in Australia, and I dove back into my sommelier career. Well as fate may have it; that amazing Aussie man gave me more than a diamond that night. We were pregnant! Not knowing what would happen or if the pregnancy would come to term, we both knew if it was meant to be it would be. 9 months later, we had a fairly quick and peaceful Home Birth on Vancouver Island.
Our son was born, he was perfect in every way. ⠀⠀
Since I was a little girl I had loved the name Stella. In my heart I knew that it was a blessing to have one child and that we wouldn’t defy the PCOS odds of a second pregnancy. So I named my business Stella as it would also become part of me. My hubby being part Italian the name Stella Stellina fit perfectly into our family. ⠀⠀
Now here is where the story takes a wee bit of a turn. Shortly after our son’s 1st birthday, we conceived again This time I knew our babe was going to be a girl.. but I had already named my business Stella?! 9 months later & a 3 hour homebirth, we welcomed Isla Marie into the world. ⠀⠀
Moral of the story it was all meant to happen just the way it did. The career, the Aussie, the kids, & the business name. More importantly we showed that doctor that it is possible to change the PCOS story & outcome. - 6 hours ago
