Clementina 'Tiny' Morison's 61lbs Record heaviest UK fly-caught salmon on the #riverdeveron !
On this day, 94 years ago, Mrs Clementina 'Tiny' Morison made history when she was flyfishing at Lower Shaws (Mountblairy) on the river Deveron and caught her record 61lbs salmon on a 1.25" 'Brown Wing Killer' fly - a record that has yet to be surpassed! She reported in a letter to her friend Lt. Col. W. Keith: "I rushed down, put my hands in his gills and dragged him onto the bank. He looked enormous lying there - a huge male fish, well hooked but a beautiful shape and coloured. I had no idea what a prize he was. We sent him to Aberdeen to get a cast made."
A cast of the enormous fish decorates the entrance to our Deveron, Bogie and Isla Rivers Charitable Trust office - and since 2011, the Morison family and our Trust annually award the memorial 'Morison trophy' for the heaviest fly-caught salmon, that is caught, witnessed and released, on the Deveron. The trophy, made of silver and black limestone, is the most valuable game angling award in the UK.
