I prayed for 3 things before the race:
A 7hr finish, no punctures & no falling off the bike.
I finished in 6:43:49 ( 48min PB)
1st in the Elite Women & overall women Category / 11th overall in the combined Elite category.
I entered the water early & a few kicks & elbows later I was on my own. Due to the distance & the sun sighting the orange turn around buoy was tough so I focussed my sights on the 3 swimmers in front of me knowing full well that they were leading the pack. I suddenly felt a tingling sensation on my arm & knew it was a jellyfish. Continued swimming & there was another violent sting & this time I felt the tentacles wrap around my arm. Shook it off only to see another one close to my thigh so I did some crazy splits in the water, told it to f**k off & swam as fast as I could to get out.
I ended up swimming 2292m instead of 1900m.
Received medical attention at transition, poured a lot of vinegar on the stings & exited T1. Now to hope that all those 'don't fall off the bike's prayers worked as I ascended the dreaded slope. Well I almost did fall off right at the top & actually screamed out loud saying 'I prayed to you for this' 🤣 Cycling being my weakest I knew I had to work the hardest & so I gave it all I had & ended up being consistent through all the 7 loops, never slowing down even for a minute. I did make 1 big mistake though - my electrolyte mix wasn't strong enough & I knew I'd have to compensate for it on the run or I'd be in big trouble.
Reached T2 only to be told I had to spend 5mins in the penalty box because I hadn't worn my chest bib on the bike, something I completely missed in the pre race briefing. Accepted the penalty gracefully because you do the crime, you pay the time.
I couldn't run up that slope & saw no point in letting the HR hit the roof & bonking mid way. I walked up & then hit the road running. It was peak afternoon heat. I made sure to compensate for the loss of electrolytes, ice under the cap, ice sponge in my bra & each U-turn replenished them and threw water on my face & shoulders.
I consumed 9 @fastandup_india gels, 1 energy bar, 2.5l of electrolytes & 1l of water. I burned 3158 calories & lost 2kgs in weight. - 6 hours ago
