Rwanda, KIVU MURUNDO 🇷🇼 Say hi to some of the hard-working ladies of the Rwandan, Murundo washing station—host of a series of coffee projects known as the Kivu Belt People’s Coffee.
The Rwandan we currently have on the roast schedule was produced here at the ‘People’s Belt’ by Furaha Umwizeye, a coffee farmer who has planted over 80,000 coffee trees over three farms and whom also happens to be a very educated woman.
Furaha, was born in Rwanda, but raised in the Congo and schooled in Switzerland. She returned to her homeland to assist with the nation’s reconstruction after the 1994 genocide, following which, many women took over the coffee production.
Furaha’s personal goal as a producer was to use her knowledge to lift her product into the specialty market. Through controlling not only the processing, but also the growth and harvest of the cherries, she is realising this steadily.
Our current micro-lot, KIVU MURUNDO, is scoring around 86-88, which sees Furaha’s endeavours successful. And with tasting notes boasting plump, juicy forrest fruits, marmalade, zesty lime and sweet white chocolate, we’d say the flavour speaks volumes of her success.
We have only a few bags left in the warehouse of this fabulous lot. Grab a tin for your collection and discover Rwanda’s pocket of divine flavour.
