Let’s talk about $$$
I never have to justify what I charge to my clients, because my clients understand the value in booking me, however I am commonly approached by other photographers, asking how to justify charging enough to work AND live.
To the photogs! My answer: You should never need to justify what you charge, the people that don’t see your value, aren’t your client and THAT IS OK! Whether people have saved up for their portraits, paid me off on a payment plan or I am in an affordable bracket for them, I like to work with clients and know I am not putting them in any financial discomfort. That would suck!
However, as photographers, we need to charge for our time. We have bills, taxes and mortgages too and we truly invest a lot of time into our work. For every hour that a client sees me I am working a minimum 16hrs behind the scenes; in edit, in social media to attract the client, in communication and in final delivery of product. Does this sound the same for you? On top of that we are purchasing high end equipment and software to ensure we are offering you the very best end product.
Simple math, as photographers, we aren’t rolling in coin, receipts? Oh yes... lots of those haha! 🧾🧾🧾🧾
However, as you know, Photography is a passion job! We LOVE what we do! Personally I am primarily doing this for joy over income!
My biz tip? Work out what you need to charge to not only live, but to sustain yourself in the long term, because if you burn out and can’t afford to continue to create portraits for people, you’re servicing no one ... and it would be a darn shame! Don’t be ashamed or believe you aren’t worth charging what you deserve! YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH! There is a market for everyone! Just back yourself and get out there creating magic, and stop worrying about $$$!! Clients will do the research, and if they can’t afford you, there are lots of options out there for them. YOUR client will see your value and book you because they love your work. Just concentrate on kicking butt and creating beauty for YOUR CLIENT.
I am almost winding up my week of biz tip focus, have you got any questions for me that you have been keen to ask? - 2 hours ago
