Today, I share with you my perspective onto “Vulnerability”. A topic which I believe has a huge misconception. From a young age on we are taught explicitly or subliminally to not express our weaknesses, fears, traumas, doubts or emotions, because in doing so we show the world that we are “weak”. Although this may have been appropriate in a day and age which revolved around survival of the fittest, I propose a different approach. The approach of expressing that which we so dearly hide, suppress and run away from. I believe there is a huge sense of relief to be experienced when we reveal those things which we suppress. Not only do we become authentic to those around us but most importantly to ourselves. We allow others to see who WE really are, which opens up the possibility for others to express who THEY really are. So, not only does this construct deeper and more meaningful relationships, but it allows us to embrace our “weaknesses” and transform them into our own strengths.
However, I believe there is a time and setting when to address such deep matters, such as men’s and women’s circles or during an intimate conversation with a friend or family member. We should be open but also smart to whom we share our wounds with, and I do not say that coming from a place of fear but rather preservation for oneself.
Vulnerability is the new modern day and age equivalent to a human super-power.
