“When you eat pizza you experience the same principled metabolic process that you would if you ate any food. In that you consume it, it passes through the esophagus, at which point it enters the stomach before entering the small intestine. It's common for people to only focus on bringing the weights up and forget to control the weight down. We have solid evidence showing this is not beneficial for muscle growth.

A 2017 meta-analysis shows the eccentric (lowering down) part of a lift is at least as important as the concentric (bringing up) for muscle growth [1]. This is in line with a 2009 systematic review by the University of British Columbia [2]. Therefore, make sure the muscles you're training control the weight down, rather than letting gravity do the work for you. It remains unclear whether performing additional heavy "eccentric reps" further contributes to muscle growth, but it's worth experimenting with if you want to try something new in your training [1, 3, 4]. I’ve been there before. I’ve only eaten “clean” foods in the sheer effort to get into better shape.

Missed meals out with mates, avoided date night with loved ones and not even had a beer to watch the football.

I look back now and laugh. What a dickhead.

Thing is, it’s all too common. We think it’s the food that is causing us to gain weight and that we need to cut it out.

It’s not the case. Calories are what governs that and not the cheeky snickers bar or glass of wine you have 2-3 times a week.

Being sociable is part of our lifestyles and not going out with family & friends or having the all important date night isn’t to be missed.
.
ESPECIALLY WHEN IT DOESN’T NEED TO BE LIKE THAT.
.
When you understand how flexibility in your diet works and as long as we are within our calories then NO FOOD is off limits.
.
So, no longer do you need to avoid the favourite foods you’ve been missing out.

I think theres a misconception people have that “once I lose the 5 pounds ill be confident” but i think confidence is SO much more than just losing the 5 lbs. Will you feel a lot more confident? OFCOURSE!

Folks will say they “binge” and need to “recover” after overeating, and while it might seem harmless, all it does is create a negative mindset around dieting.

Truth is, one day (or even a few days) of “bingeing” isn’t going to dramatically derail your progress. Sure, it might set you back a bit, but it’s not gonna undo months of hard work.

I was speaking to a new client yesterday.

She'd been working really hard for years, not seeing any visible results.

Upon digging a little deeper into her training and food history I found she'd been doing a lot of the right things

However she'd also been doing a few things that weren't so beneficial in helping her move towards her goals.

This mainly around poor programming around the gym and not having a proper understanding of how to manage her diet to help her maintain muscle whilst dieting to give her the toned look she wanted, that also didn't interfere with her job as a school teacher and mum of 2 
With this all identified i am looking forward to helping her reach the goals set together!
