Our Lady of the Rocks is an amazing 17th century Roman Catholic Church off the coast of Kotor, Montenegro.
But I think the legend behind its existence is even more beautiful.
It's said that fishermen found an image of the Madonna and Child on a rock in the water.
They were in awe of the image, so upon safe return from each voyage the fishermen returned to that same location and placed a stone.
The rocks eventually piled up to form an island. At some point, they added a church and museum.
Locals pay tribute to the legend -- and their heritage -- every July 22nd. That's when they set sail, return to the scared spot and, again, throw rocks into the sea. - 31 minutes ago
