My practice is a continuous work in progress, especially being upside down in Sirasana. There was a time when I was like no bloody way Brochacho but I wanted this asana in my practice because I wanted to feel strong and powerful especially in my upper body.
At the time when I started my inversion journey the thought of being upside down was a little bit daunting. However the more I practised being upside down, I found it was healing seeing life and the world around me in a different perspective.
Also the benefits of Sirasana are awesome, here are just a few to wet your taste buds:
Relieves stress, increases focus. Improves blood flow to the eyes, head and scalp. Strengthen shoulders and arms. Improves digestion. Helps flush out adrenal glands. Decreases fluid build-up in the legs, ankles and feet. Develops and improves strength in the core muscles and stimulates the lymphatic system.
Like everything Sirsasana takes time, patience and persistence. (AKA flipping over, winding myself and sore arms lol)
It was worth every crash landing to be up feeling strong and I’m continuously finding new depths to explore in this asana.
With me persistence and being kind to myself is the key. Nurturing these bones of mine and not being too hard on myself.
Sometimes we expect a lot from ourselves in a short amount of time. This leads us to feel impatient, frustrated and then the feeling of self doubt starts to rear it’s ugly head. Stop, breathe and let that shit go. It doesn’t serve you and you definitely don’t need it in your life.
So I ask you to soften, to invite compassion and hopefulness into your life. (On and off your mat) Let us allow ourselves some space to grow and learn with patience and persistence. Just know what ever you are working on you have got this.
So here’s to our in-progress-ness. May we be kinder to our ever-growing selves and may we love our works in progress. #bekind #kindnessiskey #worksinprogress
