I’ll start by saying no need to panic but I don’t think we’ve ever truly been terrified in our lives until last week. 
Over the past 6(ish) months Scott has had a dent appear in his skull and quadruple in size. Last Tuesday we took him to the GP who referred us to a specialist who saw Scott on the Thursday and he had a CT Scan that day. 
The scan hasn’t told us what it is however whatever is causing it appears to be benign. For now we will watch and wait, if it stops growing in size we will see the specialist again in 12 months, if it continues to grow as it has this last 6 months then we will go back sooner.
While we are relieved that there was nothing sinister that immediately needs to be seen to it hasn’t eased our worries because we aren’t sure what has cause it or if/when it will stop growing in size.
It is a timely reminder to always check your body, if things change always go to your doctor to have them checked (and in our case monitored).
My heart goes out to anyone who’s ever sat in a waiting room, waiting for results, hoping for the best while thinking the worst. For now it seems we’ve been lucky, there are lots who aren’t, my heart goes out to you 🧡

The classical vitamin C deficiency syndrome is scurvy. And in this disease, the most widespread visible signs that you get are things like bleeding gums or otherwise bleeding underneath the surface of the skin, especially in the oral cavity, so seeing a lot of red underneath the lining of your of your mouth.⠀

Now, outside of classical scurvy, what might vitamin C do? Well, as many of you already know, it's long been thought that not getting enough vitamin C could contribute to getting the common cold and that taking vitamin C might protect against the common cold. There's a lot of research out there with very mixed results, but I would regard getting sick more often than you think you should as a possible sign that you need more vitamin C. ⠀

In fact, vitamin C is an antioxidant, which means that it just generally protects your tissues against wear and tear that occurs naturally with age and gets worse when you're exposed to things like cigarette smoke, and alcohol, and environmental toxins. And so all of the degenerative diseases like cancer, and heart disease, and insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes, all these things have a component of oxidative stress that wear and tear on our tissues, and so all of them might conceivably be improved by making sure you have adequate amounts of vitamin C.⠀

High levels of physical activity, illness, and exposure to toxins, including ethanol, the type of alcohol that you drink to get drunk, and cigarette smoke all increase the need for vitamin C, and so you probably want to supplement your diet if you are highly physically active, get sick often, or drink and smoke a lot. And conversely, if you want to eat a relatively low-vitamin C diet and not be subject to deficiency, then the cleaner your lifestyle is in these respects, the less likely you are to run into problems from consuming lower amounts of vitamin C.⠀

We may not of thought it at the time but 23 years ago the seed was planted. My running journey began, 12 years old running a half marathon with my Dad.

It may not of been a straight forward journey, but now I am living my passion for running in a job a adore, with an amazing family of my own and have the gift and desire to show them what I do. Maybe in another 23 years they will share a similar picture.

Finally, there's an answer.

Introducing, the @refugeemarathonproject, a new initiative where people of a refugee or asylum seeker background will participate in a training program to run a major Australian marathon.

The aim is to promote social, mental and physical health by holding regular structured training sessions that encourage the participants to socialise while they work towards a shared ambitious goal.

The first cohort of participants will be based in Canberra, working towards @austrunningfest in April next year.

If you know someone who would benefit from participating in this program (a former refugee/asylum seeker over 18, living in Canberra), you can encourage them to apply by emailing refugeemarathonproject@gmail.com.

Alternatively, if you have any other ideas of how you could support this program (sponsorship, marketing, coaching etc), please get in touch via the Refugee Marathon Project page.

Per quale motivo l'esercizio contro resistenza (STRENGTH TRAINING o allenamento con i pesi) è nettamente migliore rispetto all'allenamento di resistenza (ENDURANCE METABOLICA o cardio)? Per molti motivi, che presto approfondirò singolarmente, ma ti basti sapere che l'allenamento con i pesi dà uno stimolo totalmente opposto al tuo corpo.

Semplifichiamo ai massimi termini, facciamo finta che il tuo organismo stia dialogando con te. ➡ CARDIO 
Il cardio manda un input al tuo corpo di questo tipo: stai facendo questo movimento, ripetutamente, per un lungo lasso di tempo, quindi io (organismo) mi adatterò per fare in modo di economizzare al massimo questa azione, perchè non posso permettermi di sprecare calorie per me preziose.
Quindi ogni volta che ripeterai questo sforzo io farò in modo che ti risulti sempre meno faticoso ed allenante, e sempre meno dispendioso a livello di calorie.
Oltre a questo ovviamente troverò anche degli escamotage per farti consumare meno calorie a riposo, in modo da ritrovarmi ad un pareggio a fine giornata. ➡ ALLENAMENTO DELLA FORZA
Corpo: sono in difficoltà ad eseguire il compito che mi richiedi, i miei muscoli non sono forti abbastanza per spostare quel carico, quindi io (organismo) come posso fare per rendere meno difficile questo compito la prossima volta che mi verrà proposto?
Semplice, aumenteró la mia forza, in modo da rispondere in maniera appropriata!
Quindi mi adotterò per aumentare la capacità dei miei muscoli, ed utilizzerò a riposo energie nella costruzione muscolare.
In questo modo la prossima volta non mi troverò in difficoltà ma saprò rispondere adeguatamente allo stimolo allenante, e sposterò quel maledetto carico! ➡ Quindi il cardio è MALE e l'allenamento con i pesi è BENE? 
NÍ.
Non tutto è bianco o nero, potresti avere dei problemi che ti impediscono di allenarti ad alta intensità, oppure potresti amare alla follia il cardio.
Di certo se non hai 100 anni o se comunque non hai gravi problemi che ti impediscono di utilizzare appieno il tuo corpo, è un'ottima idea utilizzarlo nel modo che ti permetterà una migliore risposta!

Got my hand caught in a gate on my way round the common 🙄. .

2 miles @ 9:48 min/mile
1 mile @ 9:47 min/mile

I normally dread this interval session but apart from the gate incident I actually enjoyed it this morning, which means I need to push harder I guess. Next week I will try 2 sets of 2 miles at sub60 pace 😊🏃🏻‍♀️. .

Day 7 of training

Last night was another rigorous session.I was doing things I have never done before. Flipping a tyre and planking on a ball were just 2 of the exercises that showed me that already I have made #progress. It was all about ENDURANCE.

I am learning about me and my body on the journey. My arms being my weakest part prove that working on weaknesses does make a difference. 
Tip of the day 💪 If you can watch yourself in a mirror it helps to understand correct POSTURE and positioning. Once you can see the correct position you will learn how your body feels, and it will easier to replicate. 
My technique for lifting the tyre needs perfection, but key point is that one  must life with the legs not back.

Backtracking to the start of the year Liam Mcivor was smashing the training with me. 👊

Having struggled with motivation for weight training and gym work in the past, getting a feel good factor for training was a priority. Once involved in the Semi private programme, he really got the buzz for training and the results soon came fast 🏃‍♂️ 💨

We were able too loose that overhanging stomach and transform and out of shape body into a much more conditioned physique 👊
