Meet Stormy! Handsome buck with a really amazing hair style!
He comes to us, along with his entire herd, via a surrender situation. He turned 4 in January and is sporting an amazing set of horns on his head!
The rescue situation was an amazing opportunity to be recognized in the conservation community and we are honored to have the ability to facilitate such a move. 8 Arapawa were rescued in total and will be moving on to further genetic diversity in the care of other Arapawa breeders.
I would like to thank @newburyfarms , for thinking of us, mentoring us through the move, and being available for pretty much all of the crazy goat questions I think up, which happens to be a pretty regular occurrence. I would also like to thank The @livestockconservancy for quickly recognizing that these goats were in fact Arapawa and needed to be rescued. Sometimes in rescue situations, breed identifying gets put to the side in order to prioritize the health and wellbeing of the animals, which of course should be the primary objective in these situations. Through these channels we were able to identify them, make contact with the Veterinarian caring for them, and the Protection Society housing them, day to day giving them the utmost care and TLC they needed, resulting in the significant improvement seen here in this photo.
It is unfortunate that we can't keep everyone in this awesome herd, due to the fact that they're all related, however their purpose will be to become ambassadors for their breed in the hands of some very talented and passionate people.
This is for #meetmygoatmonday with @theyounghomestead and @newburyfarms. I'm still getting a hang of this social media thing!!! Happy Monday Conservation fam!
