Intimacy is no longer being intimate.
In this day and age, we’re at a place where everyone can experience sexual things with anyone, regardless of how long you’ve known them. Sort of empowering, to an extent.
Kissing, having sex, it’s no longer an intimate moment, it’s just a way to enjoy your body.
And it got me thinking. What even is intimacy anymore? And then it occurred when I had the love of my life tickling my back in the early hours of the morning.
Intimacy is the smallest details now, the things people don’t get a chance to learn about you. It’s the back tickles, the way you like to cuddle, the hair plays, it’s when he’s lying on your chest both so close to falling asleep, it’s the forehead kisses and the wiping away of tears. It’s the way you hold hands and the way he taps your butt ever so gently when you walk through a door first. It’s the pillow wrestling and the way you so delicately fit in to each other’s shoulders and interlock legs when you collapse in to bed. It’s buying a double scoop of ice cream (even though it’s expensive) and having them take a huge bite to help you eat it because it ends up being bigger than your head! It’s being together and not caring who’s looking.
It’s no longer the sexual side of things. That you can get any way, anywhere with anyone. There’s apps made just for it!
What intimacy is now is so rare, and so loving, and so beautiful, and that’s exactly how relationships should feel. I’ve had the loveliest day off with my man, motorbikes, ice cream and boats, and I’m excited for this Easter holiday, because for once, neither of us are working a single day of it
