We can feel our feelings without believing the thoughts and stories that come along with being in a particular feeling state.
When we're angry, you can feel the anger and move through it without buying into the thoughts that arise from the anger. Instead we can recognize them as just stories that are coming up. Refocus your attention on nurturing yourself and giving yourself compassion for whatever is going on.
This week I've had a few meltdowns due to exhaustion. During these moments, thoughts and stories came up that my life was too hard, I couldn't do everything I needed to do, I'm not good enough for my job, and you can image where this continues to spiral.
So I let myself cry and cry. I let the thoughts arise and then let them pass without getting attached to what they mean or if they're true.
By refocusing on what I needed in that moment...a good night's sleep instead of going down the rabbit hole of why life is so miserable, I was able to take action that supported what I needed in that moment.
