My opinion is different working as a chronic disease Dietitian. This image provides the opportunity for people to learn about portion size, better cooking methods and following a balanced plate.

The option on the left to me is a supersized portion, HOWEVER it is a normal portion provided at most restaurants/pubs/bars.
⠀
The option on the right is a homemade version, served along side a garden salad and frozen oven baked chips. It follows a more balanced approach. Not everything on the plate is home made and that’s ok 👌🏼

You don’t have to eat perfectly all the time BUT I believe it is important to understand how you can make better choices/options at home.
⠀
My belief around food is - SURE eat whatever you like, BUT you can still be informed around your choices for YOUR lifestyle.

Can you make the left option better? Sure! Cut the chip portion back to a generous handful and you’d be surprised by the difference 😉⠀ ⠀

So lately the dark circles under my eyes have gotten worse (I’ve never had this problem so when it happens it’s quite noticeable), and I read it could have to do with the kidneys or the adrenals (which all are located next to each other in the lower back). So I think I’m going to buy some Ashwagandha to help with stress. I’ll also research the kidneys more because I’m not sure how to tackle that one lol but at least thankful that I can have so much info so fast thanks to internet haha there goes my Saturday 😏

Nothing feels better than finally be back to my daily workouts and healthy eating 🤗
Follow us (@yelp_page_optimization ) for the best daily Health and Calorie Intake Guides 🏃🏻 FOOD DIARY from today 🥑🌮🥗😍 I love cooking and creating new meals but I have also a list of standard foods and dishes, I keep on repeating because: 👉🏼 1) they taste amazing and 👉🏼 2) I know the calories amount in each of them and I can easily estimate if they fit my meal plan on a particular day or not 🤗 If you only start with your healthy eating, I would suggest sticking to easy meals that you can prepare quickly. All of my meals from today were cooked within 10-15 minutes, so you don’t have to waste your weekend standing in the kitchen 👍🏼😁 On Saturday or Sunday, I usually have my treat meal and today I had again my favorite sushi - salmon cream cheese avocado rolls and those are so delicious that I can’t wait to have more 🍣🤤 My full day of eating:
1. 🍎 Breakfast 1 - fried eggs with cheese on top (parmesan and cheddar), half of avocado, cucumber, tomato and strawberries. #hfa
2. 🍎 Breakfast 2 - protein oatmeal bowl with chia seeds, topped with strawberries, banana, raspberries and peanut butter.
3. 🍎 Snack 1 - one banana muffin with some pineapple, watermelon and cantaloupe.
4. 🍎 Lunch - my all time favorite sushi - salmon cream cheese avocado rolls.
5. 🍎 Snack 2 - high protein cottage cheese with a few strawberries and cashews.
6. 🍎 Dinner - giant whole wheat tortilla with white cheese, spinach, avocado, grilled turkey breast, cherry tomatoes and cheddar cheese.

WHAT TO EAT, WHEN: I’ve posted a lot this week on the digestive system and how to speed it up so that it works effectively to digest foods and leave little time for toxins (and therefore disease) to develop.

Dr. Matsen, in his book, “Eating Alive: Prevention Thru Good Digestion,” suggests:
.
🍏 Eat fruit in the morning, possibly followed by vegetable juice.
😋 Get a LITTLE hungry before you eat - your body burns up some of the old junk for fuel but take it easy to start with. If you go too long without eating, you will experience low blood-sugar and all of its related problems (lightheadedness, weakness, cravings).
🍊 Stay on fruit and/or vegetable juice until 11am/12pm...1 o’clock if you can but if you’re terribly hungry, it’s fine to eat a little earlier. An hour or two of detoxification in the morning will help your liver function better over time.
🍝 Eat a carbohydrate meal for lunch (don’t mix carbs and proteins).
🍽️ Eat a protein meal for dinner - it is more likely that the proteins will be used as building material (for muscles, tissues, etc.) if eaten later in the day.

Neutral foods can be eaten with either your carb base or your protein base.
Neutral foods are non-starchy vegetables and leafy greens, e.g. broccoli, cauliflower, eggplant, mushrooms, onions, spinach, etc.
Herbs and spices such as ginger, garlic, turmeric, apple cider vinegar, mustard and curry powder, as well as lemon and lime, can be used to season your meals.

Sometimes the most simple foods are the best! Carrots and beets oven-roasted Moroccan-style in my handy tajine. I only added a little water to help keep them moist. After they cooled down, I chopped them into bite-sized pieces and added a sprinkle of sea salt, fresh ground black pepper, and a drizzle of argan oil. So yummy!

Saute 1/2 sweet onion and 2 cloves garlic in olive oil, when onion is translucent add sliced mushrooms, cook for a few minutes then add 1 diced zucchini and 2 sliced tomatoes, stir and cook until tomatoes form a sauce. Add salt & pepper as they cook. Served with 2 packs of butternut squash ravioli and parmesan. Makes two servings.

Yummmmmm!  I love love love the flavor of Thai basil (typically found in Asian supermarkets). This was prepped ahead of time with all my veggies cut and tofu pressed so all I had to do was stir fry it and it was easy.  I even got the stamp of approval from Brandon... so it’s a win!⠀

Thai Basil Tofu Stir Fry ⠀
⠀
1 cube of firm organic tofu⠀
1 organic zucchini,  cut into small cubes⠀
1/2 organic yellow onion julienned ⠀
1 jalapeño seeded and diced⠀
1/2 c Thai basil⠀
1/2 c organic sugar snap peas⠀
2 Tbsp grape seed oil⠀
1-2 tablespoons of fish sauce⠀
Salt⠀
Red chili flakes⠀
Take tofu out of water and wrap in a cloth, and set a pot on top to press water out for 10 minutes.  Then cut into cubes.⠀
⠀
Meanwhile warm 1 Tbsp of oil over med high heat and add cubes of tofu  stirring frequently til browned on sides.  Take out and drain on a paper towel.  Then heat another tablespoon of oil and cook onions til translucent (3-4 min). Then add in peas, zucchini and Thai basil, cook for another 3-4 min til.veggies are bright green and slightly soft.  Add in tofu and stir around, then add in fish sauce, red chili flakes, and salt to taste.  Stir to combine flavors over medium heat. ⠀

You can serve with brown rice if you like, but we just ate it as is.  You could even serve it over a bed of massages kale ( massage shredded kale with olive oil and a little salt and pepper). Delicious! ⠀

I haven't been posting much lately. I've been feeling discouraged because of the health issues I've been experiencing. I spent 6 weeks on a low fodmap diet to see if that would help my symptoms. I was initially excited because I was feeling better! But it didn't last and my symptoms returned. It looks like something other than IBS is the cause of my stomach issues 😞 and I'll have to wait to see a specialist.

I started My Healthy Why last August because I couldn't take feeling sick, tired, and out of control any longer. I wanted to journal the ups and downs of choosing a healthier lifestyle. Although I feel like I have so far to go still, I look back at my original posts and am amazed at how much I've changed.

I haven't given up.

I've lost weight.

I have more energy.

I no longer feel like I'm killing my body.

Fighting the signs of ageing one facial at a time......... A good skincare routine is so important, especially when you reach a certain age.... So I use a good cleanser, toner, serums and moisturisers (day and night) alongside regular face masks.

Would I ever consider Botox? Definitely not, not because I’m against plastic surgery but because I feel it’s unnecessary.

Botox was developed for medical reasons not cosmetic, wrinkles and lines are all part of ageing, we can do our part in taking care of our skin without the aid of needles.

Eat better, drink your water, exercise, get yourself a good skincare routine, wear sunglasses to avoid frown lines.

It kills me to see girls in their 20’s using Botox as a quick fix, take responsibility for your skin, don’t take it for granted but most of all accept that we age, make peace with the fact that you’re going to get some lines, and remember you’re more than just a pretty face.

So for lunch today we went a little crazy... Red pepper stuffed with ground turkey and a little hot Italian sausage, roma tomato, onion, pepper extras and mushroom (plus chili powder, Italian seasoning, black pepper and an egg yolk on top, no rice in mine) then wrapped in cabbage leaves and baked with tomato sauce. One pepper was enough for me for lunch and I'll snack on the rest later. If I could only eat one thing forever, this would be it. #stuffedpepper #cabbagerolls #myweightlossjourney #eatbetter #newfavorite #yum

Les ingrédients
.
1 tranche de pain complet
2 œufs (plein air 0 libre enfin voilà svp ! 😊)
1 c.s d'huile d'olive
1 c.s de crème fraîche de votre choix (j'ai mis à l'amande 😊)
1 c.s de lait
1 pincée d'herbes amoratiques euh aromatiques (... Caro si tu m'entends 😅)
Des noix

La recette :
Préchauffer le four à 180°C

Huiler le fond d'un plat à gratin
Faire deux petits trous dans la tartine 
Déposer la tartine dans le plat 
Verser le lait sur la tartine pour l'imbiber
Casser les deux œufs au niveau des trous creusés
Verser la crème
Saler, poivrer et déposer les petites herbounettes
Repartir les noix ⏰ Enfourner 15-20 minutes (le blanc d'œuf doit être bien pris)

Pour moi c'était salade, champignon vinaigre de framboise et graines de chanvre & sésame
