Today is National Boss' Day and since I'm my own boss, I'm celebrating ME!
I don't take for granted how lucky I am to no longer have a boss that makes me pray that today is NOT the day I end up on the news. While I was lucky enough to have TWO bosses, during my entire corporate/office drone career, who were the epitome of everything an AWESOME boss should be (I'm talking to you Jeanne and Priscilla), I spent many years working for other people who were in a word, AWFUL. They never recognized my efforts, they treated me as though I was beneath them, they were disrespectful, demeaning, rude, and took advantage of my work ethic, so I usually ended up doing the work of 5-10 people. No wonder I was so sick all the time!
In my corporate career, I'd always strive to be a much better boss to the people who reported to me. I wanted to give people a safe place to come if they had concerns, to motivate them to do their best, treat them with kindness and respect, mentor them to take their careers to the next stage and even make work a fun place to be. I think I did a good job with that. And I have taken the lessons I learned into my current business.
I am grateful for all the things Jeanne and Priscilla taught me about being a positive influence in someone's life and mentoring them through uncertainty. But I'm also grateful to all the crazy asshat bosses I had in my life for showing me what not to do!
Perhaps it's all those experiences combined that make me appreciate this entrepreneurial journey even more. I have a passion (and dare I say, a knack) for helping others see their true potential. And that's what I do now as a Mentor.
I'm fulfilling my purpose and I don't think I would have arrived at this place had it not been for everything I learned from all the different bosses I've had over the years. One of the most important lessons I learned is if you are not happy with your job, your boss, your current station in life, change that shit!
I'll be sharing some CRAZY stories from my corporate life on my IG stories throughout the day today so don't miss them!! - 6 hours ago
