🔆How to Get More Energy Throughout the Day!🔆

No this isn’t a “healthy energy ball” recipe that you’d find on Pinterest.. yes I see you’re saved pins 👀
.
“Energy balls” aren’t going to give you ❗️real ❗️sustainable, ❗️consistent energy so here are so tips to keep you from feeling tired all the time!
.
1. Cut down on screen time. Set an alarm for yourself each night to cut off all screens.
2. Don’t skip breakfast - no this isn’t an old wives tale. Eat a good hearty breakfast that will keep you full.
3. Get more sunshine! Go for a walk after lunch, work outside if you can, or even drink your coffee outside in AM.
4. Power Hour - This is one of my favorite things to do in the mornings. Take some time in the mornings to only listen/look at motivational or positive messages.
5. 3 minutes of deeeeeeeeep breathing everyday!
6. Drink yo water💦 100oz per day always
7. Cut down on processed/packaged foods. This can also include frozen meats and veggies if they have added ingredients.
8. Eat more nuts and seeds. These are high in energy boosting nutrients.
9. Walk for 10 minutes 3x per day. It’s scientifically proven better for your health so do it!
10. Finally sleeeeeeeep more. This is an obvious one but even if you get 7 hours and you’re still tired, your body may need a little more!

This is, in no way, a comprehensive list. In fact, a lot of times fatigue has to do with gut health & diet and I could write a book about all of that.

Chronic fatigue is something many people and my clients struggle with. This is why I teach about fatigue in my program!

I’m Tayla 🙋🏻‍♀️ This is me, everyday. Smiling & happy on the outside. 
However at times, behind closed doors is a often different story. I’ve even made a different Instagram account because I’m still ashamed and embarrassed. 
I look back at all the compliments I would get whenever I got toned or lost weight, I’ve realised those comments fed my eating disorder. You’ve lost weight, you’re looking good. They feed my cycle of restricting and bingeing. 
Just one more diet 
Just one more binge 
I’ll start again on Monday 
The diet must be working if people see I’m losing weight. 
So I’m ditching the diet talk, I’m not engaging in conversations about another persons weight and I will find better ways to compliment people. 
I guess what I’m encouraging myself to do is be mindful. Mindful of the comments you make. 
Tell people theyre strong, or there fun to be around instead of encouraging the diet. #ditchthediet #bingeeating #bingeeatingrecovery #brainoverbinge

Sometimes your meals make no sense.

Today's lunch was one of those times.

It was one of those search through the refrigerator feeling uninspired to make something but also have a weird array of miscellaneous goods.

It was a *clean out the leftovers and call it a meal* lunches.

What I've got: 🥥 curry rice + roasted 🥕 + @traderjoes chicken sausage + fried 🍳

Ps I threw the egg back in the pan after this mini photoshoot because I secretly hate runny yolks! If you unfollow after reading that blasphemy, I guess we will have to agree to disagree, but I need to be totally transparent and come out of the runny yolk hating closet 😉

This thing called intuitive eating ain’t easy. As with most things, my journey with intuitive eating has had its victories as well as its struggles. But I am so happy that I decided to take this scary jump because I have never felt as good as I do now since becoming a #DietCultureDropOut⁣
⁣
Some of the struggles of intuitive eating:⁣
•the first few months where you eat all the things & feel kinda out of control, but it’s part of the process and does pass ⁣
•accepting weight gain⁣
•the comments from friends, family, and strangers about what I’m eating⁣
•the uncomfortableness that comes from relearning everything I’ve ever thought I’ve known about food & my body ⁣
⁣
Some of the victories of intuitive eating:⁣
•reduced food anxiety ⁣
•unconditional permission to eat ⁣
•better understanding of what my body needs⁣
•so much more happiness⁣
•enjoyment during social situations centered around food⁣
•once forbidden foods now lasting in my pantry, fridge, and freezer⁣
•feeling in control around food again⁣
•increased self compassion⁣
⁣
It’s not a linear process. Some days are filled with victories. Other days I get really down and think about returning to the world of diet culture because let’s be real, it’s always easier to go along with the status quo than to swim upstream. ⁣

Life has been so much more enjoyable since I started this journey.

I love seeing clients get closer and closer to their goals! It’s especially great when they realize it’s not complicated like they expected it to be.  One of the easiest but most effective ways to balance things out is changing the way you build your plate! -
Fill half your plate with non-starchy vegetables and share the remaining half with a starchy vegetable (or high fiber grain) and a lean protein source. -
Outside of a medical reason, I don’t believe in eliminating foods groups. It will not work for long term success, other than leaving you feeling deprived and cranky. -
Yes, cutting carbs for a week may have you feeling ready for a special event, but don’t you want to feel good far after that event?! Swipe ➡️ for another visual!

Well...have you tried to live off a yoga teacher’s salary 🤷🏼‍♀️🙄? Let’s just say even with all my side hustles {my blog, workshops, private clients, my hand made jewelry, & the company i freelanced with}, i was still scraping to get by...And when you’re rolling up on 40 and have unfulfilled dreams, you start doing things differently💯🙌🏻.

Here’s the REALITY tho... i wasn’t looking for what i found. Yes, i wanted to move my health business online. Yes i wanted to monetize my blog... BUT, i didn’t know HOW, didn’t know exactly what it would look like, AND i sure as shit didn’t have the money or resources to create the vision i had. .

I didn’t start my business as an endeavor to make money. That was the result of simply doing what i loved and pouring my soul selflessly into my passions to educate & empower others to use food as medicine & to start getting fit w/ me. I didn’t invest in a brick & mortar or have big start up costs.  I just bought a fitness plan from a girl off Instagram...that’s it.  When i started coaching i was just a girl, ready to transform herself, that signed up for a fitness challenge, wanted more accountability, & wanted to earn her spot in the bootcamp for free by supporting others.  That‘s all. .

I didn’t know that it would impact me and others so greatly... didn’t know that one simple choice would literally domino into what changed my career and life.

I continued to teach yoga for 2+ years after i opened my online coaching biz.  I hadn’t planned to ever stop, but after 8 years of service at one of the yoga studios, i was let go. DownSQUEEZED right out. And you bet your bottom dollar i was glad i spent those 2 years building my online biz, so when i lost my job i wasn’t stressed.  My business by that point was what was paying my bills & then some...not yoga.

So there you have it.  I work my a$$ off daily and PREACH health & food as medicine because it’s what I’ve always done & what i believe in.  So to answer your Q:  I didn’t switch.  It just was a natural evolution.

A common piece of all diets is that they involve some form of restriction - whether that is limiting certain food groups or only allowing eating during times of the day. ⠀

The second principle of Intuitive Eating is to honor your hunger. When discussing this principle with clients, the first thing I like to have them do is to think about all the things their body naturally does - breathing, pumps blood, heart beats. All of these things happen naturally and we don’t ever try to manipulate them because we know without these basic functions, nothing else in our bodies would work. That same logic doesn’t seem to apply to food. I’ll never forget sitting in a lecture on diet culture a few years ago where the lecturer said this quote. Wouldn't it be nice to actually listen to your body and get in tune with it -- letting it guide when you eat. ⠀

Essentially anyone whose commitment to their dietary protocol and/or body composition goals becomes an act of self-imprisonment predicated on lacking knowledge, enjoyment, progression, and thus sustainability.⁣
⁣
“That slave of sustenance focuses more on eating the ‘right’ foods versus caloric intake when trying to build muscle.” ⬇️⬇️⬇️⁣
⁣
As a previous member and former VP of the National Hardgainers Society (NHS), I know first hand that hardgainers have it, well, hard. ⁣
⁣
These are individuals who can’t put on adequate weight/muscle to save their lives - attributed to increased metabolism, diminished appetite, getting full quickly, very physically active, the list goes on. This is resolved through diet, nothing else. ⁣
⁣
A more deep-rooted problem is occurring here: a dangerous and unforgiving mindset many ectomorphs adopt is “to look like the Rock, I gotta eat like the Rock” – aka essentially grilled chicken, brown rice, and broccoli for every meal. ⁣
⁣
While a great meal to consume in general, its effectiveness for hardgainers is limited. Trying to reach a caloric surplus this way is like trying to nail a full court buzzer beater – not impossible, but you’re very likely to come up short. ⁣
⁣
The fix here is simple ➡️ FOOD CHOICES⁣
⁣
Adding in portions of higher caloric (but less “healthy” ) foods can and will help you gain muscle if it helps you reach your daily requirements.⁣
⁣
My personal departure from the NHS came from microwaving Ben and Jerry’s pints for easy consumption. Right then and there, reaching a caloric surplus became cake, literally and figuratively 🍰.⁣
⁣
Consider dried fruits, nuts/nut butters, seeds, gatorade, olive oil when cooking, and when you eat out, ENJOY YOURSELF. 🍔🍟🍪🍩⁣

𝐒𝐥𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 | n.⁣ ⁣ Essentially anyone whose commitment to their dietary protocol and/or body composition goals becomes an act of self-imprisonment predicated on lacking knowledge, enjoyment, progression, and thus sustainability.⁣ ⁣ “That slave of sustenance focuses more on eating the ‘right’ foods versus caloric intake when trying to build muscle.” ️⁣ ⁣ As a previous member and former VP of the National Hardgainers Society (NHS), I know first hand that hardgainers have it, well, hard. ⁣ ⁣ These are individuals who can’t put on adequate weight/muscle to save their lives - attributed to increased metabolism, diminished appetite, getting full quickly, very physically active, the list goes on. This is resolved through diet, nothing else. ⁣ ⁣ A more deep-rooted problem is occurring here: a dangerous and unforgiving mindset many ectomorphs adopt is “to look like the Rock, I gotta eat like the Rock” – aka essentially grilled chicken, brown rice, and broccoli for every meal. ⁣ ⁣ While a great meal to consume in general, its effectiveness for hardgainers is limited. Trying to reach a caloric surplus this way is like trying to nail a full court buzzer beater – not impossible, but you’re very likely to come up short. ⁣ ⁣ The fix here is simple ️ FOOD CHOICES⁣ ⁣ Adding in portions of higher caloric (but less “healthy” ) foods can and will help you gain muscle if it helps you reach your daily requirements.⁣ ⁣ My personal departure from the NHS came from microwaving Ben and Jerry’s pints for easy consumption. Right then and there, reaching a caloric surplus became cake, literally and figuratively .⁣ ⁣ Consider dried fruits, nuts/nut butters, seeds, gatorade, olive oil when cooking, and when you eat out, ENJOY YOURSELF. ⁣ ⁣ There you have it, a hardgainers life made EASY! 🏼⁣ - 1 hour ago

I typically don’t have a new low weigh in every single week during prep. Some weeks the scale went down, sometimes my weight stayed the same and some weeks the scale even went up! ⁣

The scale is not a tell all in progress because typically it will fluctuate but it is a very useful tool to gauge your progress. ⁣

Food is energy!

I totally believe certain foods give you more energy and genuinely make you feel better than others, but I don’t think any foods should be off limits.

Did I choose to pack a cup of raspberries for my snack today instead of chips? Yes. But then did I have some chips later when I got home? Also yes. SO many people tend believe certain foods will make them “fat, skinny or muscular,” when in reality there is so much more to the equation than types of foods. For example things like genetics, energy expenditure, calorie consumption, hormonal imbalance, overexercising, underfeeding your body & stressors will ALL play a role in your body composition.

I urge you to stop wasting your time on trends that tells you which foods are the best for you (and are typically only good for a quick fix) and START WITH THIS:
(1) Paying attention to which foods make you feel good (not just a quick endorphin hit but truly make you feel good and give you energy)
(2) Eat to satiety & stop restricting certain foods—it’ll take your “food focus” away
(3) Keep your eyes on your own lane and focus on YOU! Not on what someone else is eating or how someone else looks. Their chapter 10 is going to look different than your chapter 1

Todays food and drink! Those chocolate weetabix are lush but they do not keep hunger locked up till lunch!!!!!!!! Also had half my gin, shock horror as to be honest after drinking plain gin for a week it was a bit sweet! So need to go buy another tomorrow.

I'm a wee built hungry now but I'm gonna try and go to bed and get some sleep, this jet lag is really crippling me.

Giving up the pursuit of weight loss does not mean you’re giving up on health! It's normal for you to desire weight loss because that's what diet culture teaches you. Thin = happy, which has to = healthy, RIGHT?!⁣ ⁣
🧁Diets typically begin with a "set of rules" that if you follow, promise to give you a banging body or freedom from your diagnosis. These rules tell you that certain foods are good while other foods, a lot of them, are bad. For a while these rules provide guidance, structure, and reassurance, but your favorite foods (which are obvs on the bad list) are being dangled in your face through your environment.⁣
⁣
🍩Feelings of deprivation increase, cravings begin, and the drive towards the forbidden food intensifies. You give in and eat something on the bad list, cheating on your diet and it initially feels great! But then you internalize that you consumed a bad food, guilt and shame set it.⁣
⁣
🍪Since you cheated,  you might as well "go all out” and eat the foods you have been limiting. You feel out of control and you may even eat more than you feel is normal in one sitting. Finally you tell yourself to get a grip and muster up the courage to restart that or another diet. ⠀⁣
⁣
🌮This cycle continues until you eventually quit and feel like a failure. Sound familiar?⁣ ⁣

Don’t get me wrong, if you like the way you look with makeup, if you enjoy putting it on, great, you do you. Ditto for the other stuff. But most of these industries fill their bank accounts by teaching us to hate parts of ourselves and then selling us some miracle solution to our “flaws.” 🙄

1◼ Have a serious talk with yourself. Ask yourself, “Am I really hungry or am I just thinking about food because it’s a habit I’ve had for years?”⁣

2◼ Try drinking a glass of water. Dehydration mimics hunger, so you may actually be mistaking your 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵 for food with your 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 for hydration. ⁣

3◼ If you’re still famished, try to figure out why. Before the meal, did you drink too much (juice, alcohol, soda) or did you fill up on bread? If so, this leaves you with a ton of empty calories but no real substance to keep you satisfied. This is what's causing your hunger pains. ⁣

I don’t like letting myself get hangry. There was a time that if I knew I was going out to dinner, I would eat very light all day so I’d have more points to splurge at dinner. I would always pre-track my dinner, but by the time I got there, I was so hungry that I was snappy, completely disregarded my plan, and totally over-ate. Today, I did the same thing - planned what I’ll eat for dinner - but made it work into a plan where I could have a filling, pre-dinner protein shake @dotfit. I feel good about sticking to my choices tonight 🍷🥩🍤⁣

Not only have I got my life back but I have so much more head space now I can get lots more done in a day because I'm not constantly thinking about food and my next meal..... The last few days I haven't given it a second thought.... Today I stopped about 2pm and thought I better check in with my body as I haven't ate .... I did and it wasn't hungry I started to get peckish around 3pm had a protein snack and then I ate my tea 💃...... I was sooooo oblivious as to how far gone I was, and how much I was neglecting my body. I drank a lot, I smoked, I ate out a ton and napped almost daily….I owned my own business and I enjoyed myself. .
The difference now with the picture on the right:

I looooove my body….I am strong, happy and HEALTHY! I don't smoke, I enjoy a drink (or 3, after all I am Irish.. lol) occasionally, I eat out very rarely and I choose to workout daily instead of nap (although I do allow myself a nap on those days that I'm exhausted) and I fuel my body with an amazing nutrient dense shake once a day!.....I still own my own business(es) and I still very much enjoy myself. .
BUT NOW….I am comfortable in my own skin, I am setting an amazing example for my boys, I help other people on their health and wellness journey, and I have taken charge of my health!

Some days just suck 🤷🏼‍♀️ Ever have those days?
They totally stink.

I'm grumpy.
I'm hungry.
I'm exhausted.
I'm just not feeling it.... But my gym time is my non-negotiable. Like brushing my teeth, it's part of my routine that I don't skip. I turned on some music, I pushed play, and I totally crushed my weight circuit today.

Not every day is easy y'all. But pushing through the mental barriers and doing the work anyway will ALWAYS be worth it. Now I'm gonna go make food and wait until it's an acceptable time to pour a glass of wine. Cause I'm a fucking adult. 👏🏼 🍷

Between work, relationships, laundry, keeping your house clean, dishes, for you momma's, your kids, a social life! ⁣⁣🙃

There never will be a perfect balance of it all in life & that is okay. ⁣⁣💙

👉🏼We pick and choose what are our priorities & we MAKE time for those things.⁣⁣

I feel, at this point I have achieved a place where I am very fulfilled in the aspects I want to be, and to me that is “balance”, but it looks different in my life than it will to you. ⁣⁣👍🏼

When you label foods, especially with ‘good’ vs ‘bad’, you are predisposing yourself to feelings and emotions that follow suite. Like guilt, shame, and judgment.
.
When you decide that ALL foods are neutral, that’s when the healing can begin.
.
Because the relationship you have with those foods has WAY more of an impact on your health and wellness than the foods themselves.
.
Now that doesn’t mean you are going to eat only ice cream, donuts, and cake for the rest of your life. Your body naturally will communicate its needs to you. You just have to be willing to listen and honor them.

You're not truly craving CONTROL over food when you choose the tuna salad (that you do NOT want!), you're actually craving BALANCE with food. 😀

I notice such a theme (I've been guilty of doing this too) of women desperately wanting to get back in control of their eating when their comfort eating has increased.
‍
If we feel out of control, it's very natural to want to feel in control, by dieting. This is the pattern that have been so used to in the past. This is where our mind automatically goes.
‍
We might think that we crave control and it feels empowering because we are taking action. However, we aren't really in control, because we can't control when we will be out of control again with our eating, which will happen at some point.
‍
A feeling of empowerment can quickly turn into feelings of disempowerment and failure.
‍
What I believe that we truly crave is BALANCE.
‍
Wanting to get back in control and diet, is just a sign of being out of balance.
‍
Small tweaks, baby steps and tuning into your body is the first step to create more balance. 🙂

Repost from @mabel_uk using @RepostRegramApp - I was listening to the awesome @mumsinbusinessassociation interview with @mollyjforbes on my way back from the gym yesterday and it really struck a cord with me as a mum of a girl and boy and in my industry.

I run a fitness studio @dynamicschester along side @mabel_uk and have spent my whole life keeping fit and helping other people do the same.

We have made a conscious effort not so sell any supplements or advocate any diets at the studio. (We get approached Constantly by ‘wellbeing’ companies but politely refuse). If asked, we encourage tipping the balance between energy used and calories in to achieve a goal.... be it for fat loss, performance, body shapes changes etc. Never a diet and always a lifestyle change.

With the kids we (my hubby @markharri is a PT too) try to avoid talking about our own body shapes and others instead talking about how fit, strong, healthy or well someone performs something physical, rather than what they look like.

In complete contradiction... after a struggle with post natal anxiety and general lifetime stress I have let poor diet and lack of extra exercise lead to a stone increase in my usual weight.

I think my body is pretty damn awesome for making two babies and have never been bothered with my ‘mum bod’ being different to my 19 year old body but when my mind broke my body suffered and I didn’t like it!

I’ve just started going back to the gym for a bit of me time and cardio and in six weeks if lost a grand total of 2lbs!!! However, my clothes fit better, I look and feel so much better, I can sleep better and my anxiety has been much more in control. I and definitely feeling those 4 scoops of ice-cream a day.⁣⁣

I used to totally panic and think I needed to to go on a detox diet after my vacation, restrict my calories and double my exercise to reverse the "damage" post vacation.⁣⁣

But after pracating a more holistic approach to nutrition I know that these is no need for that.⁣⁣

This is what I'm doing to get ride of the bloat and puffiness after that all inclusive buffet:⁣⁣

I'm not doing anything dramatic. Mostly I'm going back to my regular healthy diet 👇🏼⁣⁣
🔸Eating mostly whole and natural foods.⁣⁣
🔸Limiting processed and sugary foods.⁣⁣
🔸Dirnking lots of water and herbal tea's⁣⁣
🔸Taking my supplements and getting back on an 8h sleep schedule ⁣⁣

So I weighed! I couldn't help myself...I put on 3lb while away last week BUT.....I have zero emotion attached to this! Before I would have found some crash diet to get the weight of quick, I would have hated on my body....I mean to be fair before intuitive eating a week in America normally ment a 7lb gain!!! So I see this as a win all round really!!! I feel so much more in control with my body and mind.

Babs choked and died that evening, trying to inhale a banana WHOLE so she could save some of her syns for 6 Freddos after dinner.

That's right, ladies and gentlemen. If you chew a banana, you have to use up 5 of your daily syns 😥

Mash that banana in ANY way, and Julie will probably bar you from coming back to class for a month.

Look, here's the truth folks - bananas, whether mashed, sliced, blended or shoved up your bum (wouldn't recommend that by the way) contain roughly 100 calories per 100g.

It doesn't matter how you eat them. The calories stay the same.

To avoid mashing the banana, make sure you don't chew it*. Do yourself a huge favour and QUIT Slimming World. Quit ALL your stupid diets and choose to educate yourself.

This has proved itself to be true over and over again...Especially in my journey with my relationship to food and exercise. I was struggling but I was in denial that I needed help. ⁣⁣

I covered up my my disordered eating with prepping for a show to try and manipulate myself to believe that, thats what would make me love myself and finally make me happy.⁣⁣

Super painful, raw moment: as you guys know, I am very introvert-y. Like, if introversion is a 1-10 scale, I’m a solid 9 or 10 on a NORMAL day. Then when I’m going through difficult times + feel vulnerable (like right now with my health), I become a 10+. 😅

As you can imagine, this comes with its own set of challenges considering my JOB is to work with people... and I have NO BOSS forcing me to show up and DO that job. 🙈

But one of the kindest gifts I’ve ever given myself is GRIT—learning not to depend on my EMOTIONS to do the things that will move my life forward. 🙏🏻 I view working from home and moving my body as such privileges that I show up to do them even when I don’t feel motivated. Even when people are dicks. Even when I wanna hibernate. 🤷🏻‍♀️

And the silver lining to it all is that I get to pay it forward, give the gift of working from home to other introverts, 💝 AND teach them to systemize their businesses + set boundaries like a mother fucker to protect their energy // mental health. 🔥

It is my calling to be a trail blazer. 💃🏻 To do hard things, and then teach other weirdos like me to do them BETTER, FASTER than I did by using my experiences. 🙃

Like mother like son. 🤣 . Super painful, raw moment: as you guys know, I am very introvert-y. Like, if introversion is a 1-10 scale, I’m a solid 9 or 10 on a NORMAL day. Then when I’m going through difficult times + feel vulnerable (like right now with my health), I become a 10+. . ❤️H E L P  A N D  A D V I C E❤️ I first started trying out HDE just after Easter but over the past 6 weeks or so life has been so busy and I've not been taking care of myself. I thought HDE wasn't working for me and started to panic and think maybe I should go back to calorie counting straight away. But I've realised I've not really been doing the things HDE teaches you to do properly. So I want to give myself a massive kick up the bum and start looking after myself much more! Learning HDE is so much better than going back to diets (for me, I know diets work for some people and thats great 👍) . So I'm asking the lovely HDE community to give me any tips and advice to get my head straight and embrace HDE properly. 💕

I seem to be stuck in the diet mentality of feeling guilty and panicked every time I eat something that would have previously been "off plan" and before I've even swallowed it I'm planning how I'm going to "undo the damage" And I spend half my life worried that I can't seem to tell if I'm hungry or not and having no idea if I should eat my meal or not. Aaargh!! Help please!! 😩🤪
