Album: Unending Degradation
Genre: Death/Doom Metal
My opinion on album: Krypts have been putting out solid releases for a while now, Unending Degradation being there debut and possibly their best. Open The Crypts is a perfect example of catchy groovy riffs and badass drum fills, the song gradually gets faster as the double bass pedal kicks in. Inhale is easily the highlight track for me, it's a haunting and creepy sounding instrumental track with the occasional evil growls, but also contains excellent headbanging moments. Beneath The Archaic hits you like a truck with epic lead melodies and a crunchy bassline. Krypts is certainly one of the better death/doom bands in recent years, they aren't doing anything different or unique as they sound pretty similar to other death metal bands, but they can definitely write a great tune. The vocals are absolutely monsterous, the frontmen doesn't provide much variety but still delivers some sinister growls, I love the atmospheric riffs within this record, it can sound very doomy at times but also not afraid to speed things up, the bass is nice and distorted which makes everything heavier and the drummer is going off. The production is fantastic, it's not incredibly clean but also doesn't sound like its been recorded from a toothbrush, a perfect balance in terms of production. Definitely a must listen for fans of Spectral Voice, Blood Incantation and Autopsy as you can hear similar vibes within the riff style and vocals approach. Overall, Unending Degradation is a awesome introduction to this band, I've been listening to Krypts for a few years now and I always seem to go back to this record, absolutely crushing riffs and powerful atmosphere.
