I know this is not a flattering photo of me. I mean, is that a smile or a smirk? In the Philippines this is what we call "ngiting aso", which should translate to English as "dog smile". But it's "plastic smile" in English, right? .
But there's a purpose why I share this non-flattering expression of mine. (This pic of me is from 7 years ago.)
This used to be my default facial expression although minus the awkward smile. I often looked serious, snob, unapproachable or arrogant. .
Which men would approach a woman who always looked like that? But the thing is ... I wasn't really snob nor arrogant (at least I didn't think so), but my default facial expression was a by-product of years of hardships mixed with a low self-esteem, stress and hidden anger. .
Thankfully I was able to work on my healing, my self-esteem flourished, and I became a happy person. Instead of the default frown, happy smile became my default facial expression. .
Today, the only reasons I monitor how much I smile are the smile lines and wrinkles that are appearing. Haha! The irony we have to deal when getting older!
Are you aware of your default facial expression? What is the expression of your face when you're unaware, in deep thoughts, or when focused on something?
Is it friendly and inviting? Or is it snobby like mine used to be? Let me know in the comments below. .
