Slogan 40—Correct all wrongs with one intention.
The Hypothalamus is a small clump of nuclei deep in the base of the brain that does a ton to regulate homeostasis. It’s a place where info on the senses and the organs shows up, also blood pressure, temp, sugar, and hormone concentrations. It’s taking all that in, and then it regulates the Autonomic Nervous System (including bladder, gut progress, and heart rate). It also manages emotional/behavioural patterns (with the limbic System), food intake, body temperature aaand circadian rhythms. So it is constantly taking in this info and managing impulses to create homeostasis in the body. And in its spare time, it has a hormone workshop in its garage. 😇 Basically, a variety of complex tasks.
There are a lot of ways that we can undercut our practice. There’s a lot of lists and numbered series of things on the dogma side, and the wonderful messiness of being human on the other. IT IS OUR NATURE TO FALL DOWN. There are stubborn patterns of behaviour, entrenched thoughts and opinions, and deep feelings that hurt constantly but at least are familiar. And it can and does feel like these will be with us always.
Keeping the intention of kindness to others is a practice. Every moment we receive new info and have to translate into whatever our best impulse is at the time. Keeping the benefit of others in mind will slowly change the focus on the self, one difficult circumstance at a time.
I have this hope that at some time a tipping point is reached, and lovingkindness just floods everything. Please let me know if that happens/happened for you. ️ - 3 hours ago
