During times of uncertainty, there are some steps I like to take in order to allow myself to think rationally and remain an effective advocate for myself. .
First- Is there anything I can do to resolve this situation? If yes- come up with a list and take action. And let’s be honest, there are almost no situations in which we are completely helpless. If no- trust that the universe has a plan for me and remain open to its signs. .
Next- I like to remind myself of the certainties I can hold onto during times of distress. What are the facts? What has my life experience, education, and past experience with professionals taught me? What do I know for certain? .
Lastly- I think about what I am grateful for right now. Being in a state of gratitude helps us create abundance in our lives. Our mind and our physical bodies are undoubtedly intertwined. Our bodily functions are affected by the state of our minds. We can actually create physiological changes in our bodies with our thoughts! Stress alone can cause indigestion, high blood pressure, sleep disturbances, pain & muscle spasms in the body, jaw clenching & teeth grinding, changes in temperature, ringing in the ears, weakened immune system, issues with communication & speech, and finally, inflammation. This shit isn’t a joke! We cannot deny that our health is (primarily) in our hands. .
So, what am I grateful for right now? Fast and free access to healthcare including specialists, tons and tons of diagnostic testing, and being born into a position of privilege where what I say is listened to and taken seriously. I am grateful for having an accommodating job, compassionate manager, and coworkers who truly care about me. I am grateful for my family, friends, and for Peter who have gone above and beyond for me. .
I just wanted to mention that I am not sharing these posts for attention or for sympathy. I am sharing because vulnerability leads to growth and because we all go through scary shit. Maybe the next time it’s happening to you, you will adopt one of these practices and can feel a sense of pride in taking care of your wellbeing. - 3 hours ago
