Maui Port Day
I get it, we only saw a sneak peak into Maui for a grand ol’ 6 hours. But oh what a fun and chill 6 hours it was. My first impression was “thank goodness it has much more of an island feel”.
At least where we docked was. (See below) -
You see Honolulu, even though a great vaca depending on where you are staying, is well…. a city. To be fair the last time I spent any significant time in Honolulu was three months in 3rd grade. Not three years ago people… when I was IN 3rd grade. So I do feel the need to disclose that other than the port day, my opinion dates back 36 years ago. I’m not even sure I can voice an opinion of one island over the other after I typed that.
What I DO KNOW is if you have more time to rent a car and explore out side of the city, you will find incredible places on the island of Oahu. -
Maui, YES… back on track. Depending on your itinerary, you'll either dock at Kahului Harbor in north Maui or anchor off Lahaina on the island's west side. We were the later in Lahaina.
The vibe was different as I stated before, more laid back. Since we were keeping our itinerary open and didn’t do preplanned excursions onboard, I was on the lookout for anything that struck our fancy to book. Majority ruled and bumped my idea of paddle boarding (very affordable for Maui BTW) so it was shaved ice at @localboysmaui -YUM, lunch, and drinks on the beach. I’m beginning to think we are a lazy bunch. After conformed to the plan, we enjoyed our relaxing day basking in the sun with a slight breeze and watched the kids swim.
🛑 NOTE: Swim with caution, and learn as much about local conditions as possible before hitting the beach. Those waves were not the safest that day and we were on constant alert with our 6 and 8 year old in the water.
🏼 High Note:
Beautiful beach if you walk about 15 to 20 minutes from the massive Banyan Tree on Front Street. Just past the school and church is a blue sign that says “Shoreline Access”. It will take you straight to the soft sandy beach in front of the Lahaina Shores Beach Resort. There is plenty of shade if needed, and nearby eateries to have lunch at if you choose.
