Been seeing a lot of “Support your friends business as much as you support celebrities you don’t know” posts on Instagram and I just thought to share my piece.
As a startup, your natural instinct will be to seek support or patronage from your friends and family first.
Even though they’re meant to be your surest bet, they can as well do a number on your business drive, if your entire sales projections are solely based off of them.
From the ones who just refuse to pay full price because they know you, to those who expect goods for free, but if you’re blessed, you’ll have those who genuinely want to support you and see you grow.
It can always swing either ways depending on the character of the person involved.
So I always advise budding entrepreneurs to keep their eyes open and look beyond their comfort zone. Don’t loose focus because your best friend patronized some other vendor or keeps pricing you cheap and if you’re blessed to have one who’s been a huge support to your business, don’t forget to show appreciation.
I’ve also come to realize that strangers make the best customers. They see your value and treat you professionally. So don’t be afraid to go out there and find your own stranger
In the meantime, tag all your friends and family who’ve been a huge encouragement to your business and appreciate them in the comments. - 2 hours ago
