Nellie’s Brandy Cocktail
Van Ryn’s 12 Year Old based cocktail "A classic Brandy cocktail," says Tinashe Chirikure. "We’ve experimented to ensure different layers that come through when you drink this cocktail, keeping in mind that it will be paired up with a dessert as an after-dinner drink. This all was done while respecting the sheer quality and craftsmanship that goes into the production of every bottle of Van Ryn’s 12-year-old brandy and the class that it represents.
The final touch with a brown sugared rim, caramelised burnt lemon peel and a maraschino cherry adds to the taste as well as the visual appeal of this drink." 50 ml Van Ryn’s 12-Year-old
20 ml Van der Hum Liqueur
2 dashes of Angostura bitters
Rim the snifter glass with lemon juice and dip in brown sugar. Caramelise the sugar on the rim of the snifter with a blow torch. Dip a sliver of lemon peel in brown sugar and caramelise using a blow torch.
Pour all the spirits in a shaker, fill with ice, add lemon peel and continue to shake until the outside becomes iced - remember the more you shake the more the cocktail becomes watered down. Carefully pour into the snifter glass. Add the maraschino cherry and enjoy!
