Over the summer, one of my colleagues told me about a really awesome self-care routine she and her partner were just starting up. It’s a really simple thing to do, but for some of us, including myself, it may be difficult to commit to. The self-care habit they were starting is a “do nothing weekend”. That’s right, you read it...a DO NOTHING WEEKEND!
What does one do during a do nothing weekend? Absolutely nothing! Well, of course, you have to do all the necessary things like eat and sleep, but this is a special weekend you set aside to relax, unwind, and hit the pause button on obligations and deadlines.
I’ve only had a couple of these so far since learning about them, but the result both times were almost like taking mini vacations. I got a chance to do whatever I wanted to do, and work was the farthest thing from my mind. The first time, I visited all the museums I could, which is something I hadn’t done in a very long time. During the other, I went for a walk on SoCo (I also stopped in @amyicecreams for Sweet Cream ice cream...my fav!) and after that I binged on Netflix for the rest of the weekend.
Your do nothing weekend can be whatever you make it, and it doesn’t have to be the actual weekend. My weekends at the time were Mondays and Tuesday, which was super awesome for relaxing! You may be thinking, “I can’t take a whole weekend off...what about all the stuff I can’t get done during the week?” I get it, those feelings are totally valid! It may take a little bit of planning, but oh my gosh is it worth it!
So the next time you’re able, if you want to sleep 12 hours on Saturday, do it! If you want to stay up all night into the wee hours watching that tv show, do it! The possibilities are endless! I’m so excited...I’m already planning my third do nothing weekend!
