Austin 1100 Mk3 (1+1a) – with only 2,000 kilometres on the clock ️️️
(Early 1970’s, Austin 1100 Mk3, Sedan ... The short story – extracts:
On Wednesday, August 15th in 1962 the production of the Alec Issigonis designed Austin 1100 Mk I in both 2 door and 4 door models began.
This new model – ADO16, or “Amalgamated Design Office Project No. 16 “ – would eventually wear Austin, Morris, MG, Vanden Plas, Riley and Wolseley badges in the U.K. alone, and more overseas. Only the 4 door model was available in the UK. Like the Mini, the Morris 1100 had a transverse engine placed directly over the transmission and front wheel drive, allowing approximately 80% of the car's length to be used for passengers and their luggage.
Many variations and improvements were made throughout its 12 year production to suite consumer's needs. From basic Austin and Morris models to the luxurious Vanden Plas Princess and the sporty MG's, there was a model for everyone! They soon became Britain's best selling car. The cars were built in several other countries, including Italy (Morris Innocenti IM3), South Africa (Austin Apache), Spain (Authi Victoria), and Australia (Morris 1100 Mk1, Morris 1500 and Nomad wagon versions). Over 3 million were produced in total.
Specifically regarding the model in my photos, which is an Austin 1100 Mk3 (even though its badged as a Mk2) It’s in a really good condition, since it’s has only been running 2,000 kilometres since it first got registered for street use (its exact “birth date” is not known … some time between 1971-1974), but is was used by a car dealer only as an exhibition car until 1993 (!!) and for a very long period after first registration it was (again) not out on the streets ... so this is a classic, that is almost as it was, when it came out of the factory back in the early 1970’s.
Disclaimer: I might not personally know neither the owner nor the car, so I can’t guarantee the period originality of the car in my photos ... The photographs I’ve taken are intended as “my illustrations” in relation to the respective car model in my photo series/story). - 3 hours ago
