Maserati 3500 GT with Superleggera body at #manhattanconcours .
Supperleggera, “super light” in Italian, was a type of auto coachwork technology, developed by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera in the 1930s. The idea was to use small steel tubes as a framework for a car body that would be covered first by fabric and later by alloy body panels. It was lighter and allowed for a greater flexibility in coachbuilding and car design. The technology was used extensively in 1950s and 1960s for high performance and touring cars, like this Maserati or Aston Martin’s DB series. - 2 hours ago
