Movie of the day: Hereditary(2018)
Director: Ari Aster
Like about 75% of this film, is just Toni Collette flexing all of her acting muscles, she is powerful, vulnerable, conflicted, and grieving, all at the same time. It's a difficult role and one she pulls off with absolute perfection, the lack of an Oscar nomination/win for her, is beyond me.
Now, apart from Toni Collette being extraordinarily talented for 2hrs, this film has a lot to offer. It takes horror and turns it up a notch, I am personally traumatized by my viewing experience, this film totally fucked me up. Essentially, it's a combination of horror/mystery genre, but what elevates this film is how is tackles the issues of personal loss and grief, it's a commentary on how vulnerable grief can make us and in some ways, it's points out, how despite what we tell ourselves, Control is an illusion.
Now, this is not a movie for the weak hearted, it's got blood, fire and worms, it's graphic on occasion,so if that's not something you can handle, I would say skip it, but if you join along on the ride, it provides a intriguing and often mystifying plot to sunk your teeth into.
Essentially, I would say, there are crazy movies, there are craaaaaaaaaaaazy movies and then there's Hereditary, at times a fever dream, at times a psychological horror and at times an exploration of our inner demons. - 1 hour ago
