✖️Stop Beating Yourself Up✖️

I realized last night while writing in my journal that I’m way too hard on myself.
.
I wrote down all of these positive things that I did that helped me progress and as I did that I heard a little voice in my head....
.
“You could of done more. The 40 minutes you sat down and watched Netflix could of been spent doing something more productive”
.
Is it true? Yes.
.
But did I need those 40 minutes to decompress and relax before I got into more work?
HELL YES!!
.
Some days I really struggle with not thinking or feeling that I did “Good Enough” to make real progress.
.
I’m sure that you have felt the same.
.
You feel like you could of done more productive and positive things throughout your day.
.
You feel as if the actions that you did take were not good enough.
.
This feeling can serve you if you use it correctly. You don’t have to be satisfied but you should never tear yourself down for things you didn’t do.
.
Quick Tips:
1️⃣ Celebrate your wins each day!🎉 (Dance,sing, hug someone, feel good about what you accomplished)
.
2️⃣ Write down your areas of improvement📝
(Take a minute to write down what areas you need to improve on and the steps necessary to improve upon them)
.
3️⃣ Stay Focused🔍
(Pick only 3-5 things to work on each day that way you don’t spread yourself too thin)
.
If you implement all three of these tips you will notice a dramatic improvement of not only your progress but your mental/emotional health💯

✍️Every morning I journal.  And part of that is writing down 3 things that I'm grateful for.  They don't have to be earth-shattering proclamations, or game-changing epiphanies.  Sometimes they are mind-numbingly simple.

I'm surrounded by intelligent and empathetic professionals that challenge one another and work together to help cultivate something I've dreamed of building since my first days of working as a trainer as a huge, shitty globo-box gym that will remain nameless.

We've all heard the term "eating clean", but why does it really matter? To get abs? To improve your competition times? That stuff is great, but it's not the answer.

Regardless of what you believe, your body is animated with a presence, an energy, an awareness that is you. Your body is the vehicle by which this presence gets to experience life. If the vehicle breaks down due to abuse, that experience of life will surely be more difficult, and the ability of the presence to express itself is hindered. Care for your body, cherish it. Not for the sake of abs, but for full expression of your greatness!

Indecisiveness is the killer of dreams.

This statement hits close to home for me.
.
I have always been a dreamer.
.
Someone that has wanted exponential growth and success.
.
Unfortunately, for a large majority of my younger years I was standing still.... paralyzed.
.
I was paralyzed by the thought of what could go wrong, who I might lose, and what I had to risk.
.
Indecision became apart of me and it was like a cancer.
.
It spread throughout my life dismantling my relationships, friendships, passions, and emotions.
.
Something had to be done.
.
SO I CUT IT THE FUCK OUT!
.
I started taking actions towards who I wanted to be and what I wanted to do.
.
I lost friends, relationships, and myself for what felt like an eternity.
.
Little by little a metamorphosis started to happened.
.
I went from standing still to crawling to putting one foot in front of the other.
.
By getting rid of indecision and adopting a “Take Action” mindset I have moved far beyond who I once was.
ALL OF IT WAS FOR THE BETTER!
.
Next time you face a decision I want you to think... If I do this will I be better off or worse? And if I don’t do this will I be better off or worse?

Today was an at home workout cause I had a snow day with my little buddy! It was fun to work out with him, and jam out to some old tunes. Some of these clips he decides to jump in. He likes the camera haha 
Clip 1- DB Bench plus Bands- I don’t have heavy enough DBs so I added bands for heavier resistance. It did the trick ha. If you want a laugh watch until the end.

CLIP 2- incline DB press with neutral grip rotation -to- 
CLIP 3- reverse DB flye- notice how I keep my hands as wide as possible and really squeeze my shoulder blades at the top! 
#TripleSet 
CLIP 4- DB Pullover- keep the elbows locked and watch how the lats flare at the top of the motion.. that’s what you are targeting! -To-
CLIP 5- DB Close Grip Press- I actually ended up using both DBs on this next set but focuses on the inner chest. -To- 
CLIP 6- Band Bent Over Row- I used a neutral grip here. Again pulling the shoulder blades back at the top of the motion.

Today was an at home workout cause I had a snow day with my little buddy! It was fun to work out with him, and jam out to some old tunes. Some of these clips he decides to jump in. He likes the camera haha Clip 1- DB Bench plus Bands- I don’t have heavy enough DBs so I added bands for heavier resistance. It did the trick ha. If you want a laugh watch until the end. #Superset - CLIP 2- incline DB press with neutral grip rotation -to- CLIP 3- reverse DB flye- notice how I keep my hands as wide as possible and really squeeze my shoulder blades at the top! #TripleSet CLIP 4- DB Pullover- keep the elbows locked and watch how the lats flare at the top of the motion.. that’s what you are targeting! -To- CLIP 5- DB Close Grip Press- I actually ended up using both DBs on this next set but focuses on the inner chest. -To- CLIP 6- Band Bent Over Row- I used a neutral grip here. This is one of my favorite Tri-Sets. Hits the #shoulders and the #arms just right! Then I burn out with the handstand push-ups! 
Clip 1- good ole triceps push down. Focus on keeping the core tight, shoulders locked in place and a strong wrist. Notice at the bottom I turn my palms down. This targets the tricep directly and helps create the “U”. Clip 2- cable biceps curl- keep core tight and shoulders locked in place again. This will end up being almost like a hammer curl. Just do not let the ends of the rope touch. 
Clip 3- cable rope upright row- this one is a little awkward but hits the shoulders hard. Use an overhand grip, and pull up keeping the elbows as the leading motion.

As a trainer, dancer and instructor, this is a question I get from friends, family and clients all the time.  The answer really is this simple.  We get overwhelmed by the research, the articles, the opinions about what the most efficient or effective workout is or which one is the “absolute best” for us.  Sometimes it’s true and sometimes its marketing 🤷🏼‍♀️

.
My advice:  find a workout you love and you will actually keep doing it.  It could be the gym, it could be a group fitness class you do with friends or it could be a home workout you found on instagram that you do in your basement in your undies.  It doesn’t matter, it’s whatever makes you happy because working out should and can be fun! .

.
If you are just starting your fitness journey or you have a #newyearsresolution you are trying to maintain remember this:  you don’t have to go run for 4 hours on a treadmill, you don’t have to track your heart rate and count your calories and you don’t have to do 3,000 crunches or 1,000 burpees to reach your goals or see results.  There are so many options out there for you.  Do what you love, try something new, do what you think you can’t, think outside the box, revisit a workout you hate...you will surprise yourself with what you are capable of.

The “secret” you are looking for is right inside of you.  You have the power to change.  You have the power to reach any goal you work for.  And, you can do it all with joy. This Saturday we will meet at the base of Eden Park in what what was once a 96 million gallon reservoir! It may actually be close to that water level by Saturday. 😏

This Saturday we will meet at the base of Eden Park in what what was once a 96 million gallon reservoir! It may actually be close to that water level by Saturday. 😏

Whether it’s raining or icing, prepare to slop around a bit. There will be several workout options prepared to accommodate whatever Mother Nature throws at us! Just show up with $10 and and be ready to sweat!💦

(June 2009 - Jan 2019)
.
Obviously I have changed a lot physically but the change I’ve experienced mentally has been exponential.
.
The kid on the left is a scared, weak, angry, insecure, self-doubting, and lost individual.
.
He battled with body image issues because people called him “small” and “grossly skinny”.
.
He dealt with depressive states and anger because he couldn’t verbalize how he felt. The girls he wanted to date wouldn’t because he was “too nice” or he was “a good friend”.
.
Fast forward ten years to today.
.
The man you see on the right has purpose. He works tirelessly on his development, he gives, he loves, he busts his ass, he is confident, and he is powerful beyond words.
.
If the man on the right could talk to the kid on the left he would say one thing and one thing only.
.
Happiness and internal peace is only there when you allow it to be.
.
Nothing or no one can bring you it.
.
You have to make a conscious decision on a daily basis to choose happiness.
.
It took me 10 years to come to peace with this realization and it has changed my life.
.
What would you tell your younger self?🤔

There is only ONE piece of cardio equipment I enjoy using, and it’s my water rower. It “feels” like actual rowing in the water and there’s no way to “cheat” the stroke or cadence.

Let’s face it: It’s much easier to make fitness resolutions than to keep them. After Jan 1, as the year rolls on, we lose steam, confidence, and motivation. Here are some mental techniques to share that helps clients stay on track with their fitness goals when they’re feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, and/or otherwise unmotivated🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♀️
.
1) Focus on simply getting yourself to your workout 🚗
.
2) Be patient and play the long game
.
3) Ditch your all-or-nothing mind-set
.
4) Visualize your success
.
5) Accept that fact that you won’t always want to work out...And that's totally normal and OK 👌🏼
.
6) Avoid making judgements about your day first thing in the morning - Don’t make a decision until it’s time, making an emotional call from early morning soreness (lethargic feeling) is uncalled for!
.
7) Tell yourself you will only go to the gym for five minutes (you’ll probably stay longer 😁)
.
8) Start with something easy - Build your confident and ease yourself into the workout 🏋🏼‍♀️
.
9) Break your workout into small chunks - (Instead of focusing on the total time of your workout, redirect your focus on the next 30 seconds 🥊)
.
10) Choose your vocabulary wisely - KEEP IT POSITIVE!!
.
11) Embrace the Small Wins - take pride in reaching this mini milestones along the way
.
12) Create a reward system for yourself (get a 10-minute neck massage after or watch an episode of your favorite Netflix show)

Back to our regularly scheduled Cincinnati winter this weekend! Taking a bit of a risk here and hoping we don’t get inundated with ❄️ until AFTER the workout! That being said, we will meet at the Serpentine Wall this Saturday at 8am in hopes of HIITing some epic stairs, ledges and whatever else we I can get us into! Come ready for the pavement, but if it’s icy, I’ll have a back up plan at the same location!!!
