I used to wait for the kids to take a nap and then run around like a crazy woman trying to get caught up on all the housework and cleaning that needed to be done. Laundry, dishes, toys picked up, garden watered, floors cleaned... all the things that it takes to keep a home of 6 humans going
Then one day, I realized I was robbing my kids of the #joy of helping as well as the #lifeskills they need to learn. Plus, I was just plain exhausted by the time they woke up from naps and wouldn’t have the #energy to keep up playing with them.
So I switched things up a bit. Now, we do #chores and “contributions” to the family #together . They love helping me load the laundry into the washing machine. My 2 year old loves to stand on a stool and pull the wet clothes out and hand them to my almost one and half year old, who then puts them in the dryer! They laugh and work together and think it’s the best thing in the world! Does it take me a little longer to get the laundry done? Sure it does! But it’s so worth the joy they have working together and learning how to #contribute to taking care of the home. They are learning SO much more than just how to do their laundry.
So now, Instead of rushing around trying to do it all in between playing with kids and changing diapers, we do things together throughout the day. We mix it in with our schedule and play time. It means, I slow down and #teach them as we do things. But it also means that during nap time, I now take time to fill my own cup,#rest , work my #business , and anything else I need to get done. This fills me up and gives me energy and time to play with them and #invest in my kids.
I’m no longer #stressed because of “all the things I have to get done” or saying “not right now” when they tug on my pants and ask me to sit down and play trucks. Now I can slow down and enjoy being with my kids while getting the things done that need to be done WITH them!
It may seem like a no brainer, but for THIS Type A, checklist, get it done myself momma... it was a BIG perspective shift! And what joy it gives me to see these brave, strong, and kind babies growing up AND learning to do life along the way ️ - 5 hours ago
