The ivy starts out so innocently.  Almost imperceptible. But year on year, it grows, gains strength, thickens, moves upward.  Until one day, if not snipped at the base, it will take over.  It is, after all, only using the tree as a scaffold, to gain light.  It is one of nature’s greatest metaphors to me:  A picture of what can happen, a warning, in fact. Have you noticed how so many women are out crushing it with their side hustles? Maybe you have considered one, but felt overwhelmed before you even got started.

I know I felt that way! I knew I wanted “something more” but had no idea how to get there. I suffered from analysis paralysis for so long, and one of my greatest regrets is not getting started sooner.

I know you are “the everything girl.” You are focused on your family, career, college, health…you get the idea. So many aspects of life to juggle and it can be difficult to even think about starting something new.

My #1 piece of advice is to simply start putting yourself out there. With each new idea, step forward, and step backward, you will begin to find your way and find your voice. Don’t fret about the logistics, just focus on sharing what you know and love that will provide value to your audience.

No really, let’s talk about it...

I’ve been home all week on spring break. And almost every day as I’ve taken the dog for a run, he has to take a 💩. Got me thinking about how our habits affect EVERYTHING!
.
I thought I had IBS for years (like 40 years). What I didn’t realize is that it was 💯 in my control. Once I changed my habits, those symptoms disappeared!
.
Regular exercise leads to - well - regular bowel movements. In fact, experts say it’s essential for healthy bowel activity. .
Eating more fruits, veggies and whole grains means increased fiber which means increased bowel movements (among other things). .
And drinking plenty of water 💧 (at least 1/2 your weight in ounces every day) helps flush your system and softens stools.

So not only have I lost weight, gained strength, re-found my confidence, but improved my bathroom game.

Sometimes the desire to lose weight becomes a pressure pot and the temptation of anything that could possibly help is overwhelming!

That voice in your head searching for answers anything to get to where you want to be, nothing else seems to work. Too much information about what we should and shouldn’t eat.. Then a few pills, curb the cravings, seems a simple solution. Sure I lost a few kilos (but found them pretty quickly again). It isn’t a solution. If it was, we wouldn’t have an obesity epidemic. •
Reach out for help if you need it. It’s there and the answers do exist! Losing weight, improving your health and vitality comes with an abundance of benefits! Let the journey inspire you, own your hard work. Let it belong to you!

Our marriage is definitely not one of those peaceful or boring ones. A Scorpion and a Gemini. 😆🔥🦋 We are not ready to give up on our dreams or suppress our own needs. This is how we learn to respect each other’s private time and relationships. 
We keep talking, discussing, occasionally fighting. But it’s all good. This is how we are learning and growing - together. ❤️❤️❤️

The pictures I’ll share with y’all to show you just how much can change when you are ready to commit. I actually made sure to untag myself in the photo on the left because I was mortified - true story.

Photo on the left was from Christmas 2017, and the right is from last night. Committing to change and creating a healthy lifestyle wasn’t even a thought in my mind in December 2017. I was simply “getting by” the best way I knew how - eating.

I wasn’t giving my best to anyone - quite the opposite actually. I believed the lie that I wasn’t capable, I wasn’t deserving, and that I was too stressed to try to take control of my life.

Finally, enough was enough last year. I made a commitment in September 2018, and I haven’t looked back since then. I have experienced the power of healthy nutrition + exercise. That is just one of many reasons why I am so excited for the Monday launch of a nutrition focused group + our next group beginning April 1st.

I want you to experience the freedom associated with making great choices for your body. I want you to realize that you are capable and deserving of living a healthy lifestyle. I want you to realize it isn’t going to be perfect and there isn’t a perfect time, but you can begin to live a healthy lifestyle when you decide to commit to change.

Today is the 7th day of my 10 000 steps challenge everyday for a week! 
Results: Having a sitting job makes this challenge super hard! I did not expect that. I reached my goal 3 days out off 7!! 😯
I tried to move more: Going up and down the stairs (16 floors) at my break, go out and take a little stroll before lunch, move more around the house (no Netflix binging), walk around while I was on the phone.. and almost everyday despite all my effort I was between 8500 to 9500 steps. And that’s even after running around the house for half and hour 😂 or dancing 💃 on my favourite new songs to get the steps in... It is hard!! Why 10 000 steps? There is some studies that show that people who walk as much are healthier. However there’s other studies that show that 15 000 steps is the ultimate goal or others that says we should aim for 150mins of exercises a week. 
So 10 000 is not the magical number, but the bottom line is: Move More!!! I will continue to increase my steps, so I am extending my challenge for another week! FITNESS FRIDAY :: We focused on push-ups last Friday, and today we’ll continue to look at upper body, body-weight movements that can be done pretty much anywhere, with chair dips.

WHY: As a compound exercise, dips work a large number of muscles at the same time, primarily the triceps, which contribute to overall upper body strength, as well as defining the muscles in your arms.

HOW-TO: Place your hands behind you on a chair, with your fingers facing forward. Place your heels on the floor. Raise yourself up so that your arms are straight, then lower yourself until your arms are at a 90-degree angle before returning to the starting position. This is one repetition.

Combine with last week’s push-ups and alternate between 10 reps of each exercise, completing 4 sets of each exercise.

Going with the flow is sometimes much more difficult than it sounds 🙃
It works pretty well for a while and all of a sudden it’s as if a switch flicked and I am all into „head-mode“ again. 
The thoughts keep running and I start planning every detail way in advance. 🤯
It doesn’t matter how often it worked out well without planning every detail, once the switch turned it will not convince me. 🙃
All that helps is quiet time, giving the mind a chance to settle again. 🌊
It’s as if the mind is a mirror to the outer world. It’s so much harder to stay calm and settled when you are in a lively, unsteady ever changing environment but it’s doable. It just needs more dedication, if you don’t set aside some time to calm down and turn inward it will probably not happen. 🧘‍♀️
It’s like with every ability you want to become better at, it’s easier if you make it a habit. Once it’s a part of your routine it’s less likely you throw all your good intentions overboard and just leave it whenever your schedule is packed or the situation is not 100% perfect. 🙉
It’s not the easiest to change habits but if you do it one little step at a time and whenever you get off the path you just return and proceed. 🧗‍♀️
It’s just like planning: it’s enough to plan the next step, there is no need to plan the whole journey at once. It will turn out different any way. Keep it simple!✌🏻

Are you actually hungry or are you bored?

Are you actually hungry or are you tired?

Are you actually hungry or is it habit to grab a bite or drink?

There’s no sugar coating the answer, there may not be a quick fix to your mindless eating. If you start asking yourself questions about WHY you grab for food at night, you may realize there’s more to it than what you believe is hunger.

If in fact you’re hungry, there are many ways to avoid the sugar and find healthier, more satiating snacks to keep you on track.

I've always been a big breakfast eater. It was typically 2-3 bowls of sugary cold cereal every morning, maybe even a few pop tarts. I couldn't understand why so much food never seemed to fill me up and why I could never seem to lose any weight.

Once I started making changes to habits like breakfast the weight finally started changing. Not to mention I learned how to eat so that I'd feel satisfied, not hungry all morning.

When I started my journey I did it for ME. 
I had to. 
I needed out of my current reality. But these faces, they are the ones that kept my WHY strong. A year ago I would think horrible things or scenarios in my head and I knew that my health would not allow me to always keep them safe. I knew I wouldn’t be able to run fast enough, have enough energy or stamina, showing a healthy example, and that honestly scared the shit out of me. Any other mamas or daddy’s out there feel the same? 
So when I started my weight loss journey I wrote little quotes to myself on my ziplock bags that I kept my fuelings in. For the first 30 days of my journey I had reminders 5 times a day to help me be successful. I wrote things to myself such as... “have a nice butt again, wear my “skinny” jeans, be able to shop size M again, like my arms, love ME.” And then I work things like... “Have energy to play on the floor, take my kids to the park, run with them, take them outside, be an EXAMPLE!” I’m learning that if you want to be successful at anything you have to have a big enough WHY. If your WHY isn’t big enough, you’ll fail. I’m human and I still struggle so I write down my WHYS again in my journal. Being real with myself makes me more aware of my current reality and what I want!

With a kitchen renovation in full swing my lunch these days is a massive salad. Unlike a lot of other things eating more veggies is good! More pizza 🍕 will get you into trouble but more veggies won’t.

With a kitchen renovation in full swing my lunch these days is a massive salad. Unlike a lot of other things eating more veggies is good! More pizza will get you into trouble but more veggies won’t. 🥒🥬 In fact having lots of veggies, especially leafy greens, throughout your day will help boost your overall health. Leafy greens have been shown to improve overall heart health, lower obesity, and reduce blood pressure. Plus they are nutrient dense but low in calories. Leafy greens are full of antioxidants like vitamin A, which is good for building the body’s natural defence system. They also have vitamin C for healthy skin & bones and vitamin K which helps our body to heal. A little strength workout to start my day 😄

Celery juice... every morning without fail. I started drinking celery juice because I heard it could help heal my chronic health issues. What I hadn’t expected was that it would be the thing that finally helped me have a morning routine. I used to start my day with a cup of tea and mindless Instagram scrolling before rushing to get ready for work. Now I start my day mindfully washing my celery, juicing it and drinking it. Then I meditate, wash up the juicer (seeing a task through is so important- it has a kind of inertia for our whole day- a bit like making the bed), then make and eat a healthy breakfast before getting ready for work at a calm pace. It has made such a big difference to my day. I hadn’t realised before the importance of giving yourself time in the morning to do these things properly and without rushing. I was a slave to the snooze button. Not any more and never again. .
