😌 My ultimate favorite moment between the “Client-Therapist Relationship” is when a client presents with anxiety, but is offered a moment to take a deep breath. Not only are there physical health benefits such as encouraging full oxygen exchange to the lungs and brain, but there are also mental health benefits such as stress relief and relaxation.

—🌤 Yes, in day-to-day living there are 1 million things to be stressed about, & yet it only takes one positive thought to turn your mood around...And what better way is there to achieve this than to take a moment to reflect on your current positive experiences, then to follow it up with a few deep breaths!⁣⁣

—🧘🏾‍♀️ “Breath Focus helps you to concentrate on slow, deep breathing and aids you in disengaging from distracting thoughts and sensations.” - Harvard Medical School, 2015. In fact, I’ve used this type of exercise for individuals who suffered with anxiety, PTSD, depression, and ADHD, and they all wound up with greater results. Try adding this in your daily routine to foster healthier relaxation skills and stress management! ⁣

We constantly compare the way people look on the outside, ( Facebook, Instagram, social media)with how we feel on the inside and are disappointed. Don’t #compareyourself to anyone ever! Comparing your authentic self to others often leaves you feeling frustrated, anxious, and #vulnerable in moving forward. It doesn’t help you in creating the life that you crave. Instead, it just takes away priceless time and energy that could be spent on developing and focusing on the life that you want.

Whenever you focus on what other people have that you don’t, you create a unrealistic expectation for yourself. Every minute spent on comparing your story to someone else’s is a minute lost on creating your own.

You have a chance, to have all that you #desire. Make a #mindful decision that your energy will be used for believing, not doubting, and for creating, not destroying.

Focus on watering your grass and building your garden. Focus on being the best version of you.

Everyone reaches a point where they know a change is necessary. When you choose  to disengage from what  doesn’t work, you eliminate those #fears that control you, and can create room to become a more passionate, engaged and inspiring individual. #Destructive habits, relationships, or activities don’t benefit you and will hinder your #growth. After you’ve made some room, develop some new tools in your life and follow through with your goals.  The idea of new beginnings can feel terrifying at times if you focus on the negative rather than being optimistic & hopeful for what the future holds. #beyourauthenticself #authenticselfhealing #selfacceptance #selfaccountability #authenticselfjourney

Doing all the things my future self will thank me for at the end of the week which all include slowing down. A slow mooch around the city, flowers @carysflowersltd and Tescos, decaf coffee @strangerscoffee, a yummy vegan sausage roll @tofurei and new seasonal inspired book @thebookhive. Easing myself into emails and clinical practice now after some sitting meditation and a gem filled business podcast @thelifestyleedit @kristinakikkik. Well, I have certainly been pushing myself out of my comfort zone recently with the launch of the podcast and other projects I'm working on, all really exciting things but boy I do wonder why I do it to myself at times! 😕  I try to focus on the WHY 🤔 I'm doing things and make my motivation bigger than my fear, for example, tomorrow I'm interviewing Dr Mary Welford a Consultant Clinical Psychologist based down in Cornwall and one of the Founders of the Compassionate Mind Foundation. Mary is also my clinical supervisor. There is a part of me that's very nervous 😬 and another part that is really excited to ask some noisy questions but above this, I know that almost every person who walks into my clinic is very self-critical and Mary is a world expert in this field, she always has straightforward and practical advice to share. “Thoughts are just thoughts not facts” 
It may surprise you to know that we have over 60,000 thoughts a day. Yes - I was surprised too and honestly don’t know how they know that! 
When we aren’t in a good place we can get “stuck” in our thoughts. We tend to only remember the negative thoughts about ourselves, or the rumination that spirals us into depression or anxiety. 
This week I’ve spent much of my time , helping clients to understand the above. 
It’s really not that simple when people or posts tell you to think more positively and you’ll feel better. Challenging and changing your thoughts are the most difficult thing to do and in CBT we look at getting clients to change their behaviours first.

Thinking and awareness🍃 ....or so called "COGNITION"

Back to the 15th century when natural wise students of the mind (so called psychologists) were trying to understand feelings and emotions and go with it the extra mile deep inside the inner wisdom, memories, judgments, production, evaluation and other intellectual functions our subscoincios makes...(hahaha .. I took it far).. back then, when they were analysing as much as they can today they discovered COGNITION. 
Cognition is nothing but the mental action or process of acquiring knowledge and understanding through OWN thoughts and OWN experiences. Heard of CBT? ... CBT stands for cognitive behavioural therapy. Why is this psychologically therapy so popular and effective?

Cognitive Behaviour is the one that has processed EXISTING KNOWLEDGE and generates new knowledge. .
... as a kid you saw your smoking. Your brain processed this as woman smoking ...cool? Or woman smoking ...smells bad and disgusts me.. all this info went somewhere there in a small area of your brain that can process the abstracts and define on its own. Later on you are an adult.. May be a smoker that in its subconscious always thought his or her mom looked so cool and chilled with a cigarette as her company or a strict non smoker that hated that horrible smell. .
That is a very simple example.. cognitive behaviour can manifest quite damaging though.. ever heard of people that came from abusive families that suffered a lot from it and now they abuse? Exactly... I am not a psychologist but I've always been interested in the mind. Today I found an article about how we can discover and treat cognitive behaviour on our own.. surely I would rather suggest treating a childhood trauma or any sort of trauma with a psychologist but why not trying it first a bit on your own.. the brain is powerful. If your thing is wanting to quit smoke or hoping to better your business relationships or simply looking to evolve as a human .. have a look .. i jyst found out about cognitive behaviour last year so its quite new to me aa well ...I'm having a read. 🌈 The breath

Another reminder to take a nice slow long deep breath. And remember that the breath is always with you, as a tool you can use and come back to whenever you feel you need it.

The breath can help us feel calmer, it can help slow the fight or flight response when we’re stressed, and it can anchor us into the present moment when we realise we’ve switched into autopilot mode.

Thoughts 🧠💭❓What are they. Are they factually based or opinion based. Reflect over yours, if they are opinion based why do we respond to them as a threat. 
I always use the analogy of if CBT was just my opinion, no one else’s, no evidence base for its success, would you listen to me. Would you take on what I think without there being a basis for it. No. 🚫You would walk away and find a therapist who has trained using evidence. Our thoughts are the same! 
Be mindful of self criticism, worrying and negative automatic thoughts. Loved this. Well done @amateuradam Working as a healthcare professional is the most rewarding job at times...other times it can be demanding, overwhelming and there are lots of moments where thoughts like “ I can’t do this” run through your mind. It takes a brave and strong person to speak about this, for some reason nurses, doctors etc don’t, they power through because if they speak out then does it confirm that they really can’t do this. I love my job now and wouldn’t be where I was today if someone didn’t convince me not to resign when I had been a qualified mental health nurse after 18 months on the job. I was overworked and placed in unsafe situations and it got me. Now as a CBT therapist, those days are where I learnt the best and hardest lessons. Preserve our staff and the NHS 😊🌻 #proud #mentalhealth #nurses #nhs #cbttherapist #doctors #cbt

Rather, than living with the  fear of what maybe or not, enjoy every moment in life, because those things that we are most afraid of, are things that we may never have to deal with. #Men aren’t as emotional or as in touch with their feelings as women are. It is less luckily for a man to ask his wife/partner for loving gestures. Just because men have a harder time expressing their needs, it doesn’t mean that they don’t need reassurance. Men so desperately need their wives to love them, support them and affirm how much they mean to them. Just like  women love hearing our #husbands tell us these things, they too want and need to hear them too.

Courage comes from the Latin term 'COR' which means heart. It's basically a heart word which is really cool. It requires the cultivation of inner strength to face life curve balls head on with an open mind and heart because it's important to you (even though it's hard). For example, we can all recall one of those difficult conversations (even with ourselves) that we felt much better for having. ❤ Still one of my favourite quotes of all time. .
